Hello Cheapskaters,
I love winter time. I love the cooler days, the chilly evenings, the chance to snuggle into bed with hot chocolate and my Kindle. I love soup and casseroles and stews. I love fluffy slippers and warm jumpers. It's my second favourite time of year (Autumn is my absolute favourite) because the year is half over and that means Christmas and our family birthday season are coming up.
Long-time Cheapskaters know that July is a festive month, when I usually put up a whole lot of challenges to get you all started (if you haven't already) planning and plotting and budgeting and crafting and wrapping for Christmas. This year I'll be doing the Christmas in July challenge through my blog, so you'll need to check-in every day to see what's happening. Why have I changed things? Because I can and because I like to keep you all on your toes - don't want you getting bored with Cheapskates.
Wayne and I had a wonderful holiday. We met so many amazing people, most of them in the most remote places in Australia, and all of them made us welcome, and showed such kindness and generosity. We enjoyed long chats over barbecues and copious cups of tea (I'm trying to cut back on the coffee - shock, horror, but it's true) and lots of cool water.
I also did a lot of researching on holiday activities and their costs, which ones are worth the money and which ones aren't, so look forward to finding out my thoughts later this year.
And prices. What can I say? Wherever I go I'm checking prices on food and clothes and fuel and housing and cars and, well just about everything. I'll admit to being more than a little surprised with the results, especially in some of the more remote areas, and again, look for my findings and thoughts later this year.
But it's good to be home. There really is no place like it and while I thoroughly enjoyed being away, I'm more than enjoying being back in our own home, sleeping in my own comfy bed and catching up with the kids.
This month's Journal is all about finances, timely seeing as it's tax time and everyone is talking about budgets and deficits and loan defaults. I hope you enjoy it. Kick back with a cuppa and enjoy a great read.
