Use your Mobile Internet on your Laptop for Savings - Friday 1st May 2015
Approximate $ Savings: $70 a month
After I separated from my husband and moved into my own place, I thought long and hard about whether I needed an internet connection at my new home. I have a laptop and use the internet for regular browsing, bill paying etc. I also have a mobile plan that has 2.5GB of data included which I rarely use all of. After some thorough investigation I learnt I can use my phone as a portable Wi Fi hotspot for my laptop! Under settings on your mobile there is an option for "Tethering and portable hotspot" and you can activate your mobile and then use your computers "Wireless Network Connection" button in the computer menu bar to connect to it just like you would a regular home modem. Make sure to put a password on it so your neighbours can't take advantage! I monitor my usage through my mobile phone provider to ensure I never go over. I can use my laptop now as some internet options are fiddly to use or unavailable on mobile phones. This has saved me about $70 a month and numerous installation costs by avoiding having a home phone and home internet installed.
