2025 31 Days of MOO Day 3 Rice a Riso
Years ago I took a packet of Continental Noodles and Sauce, checked the ingredients and promptly MOOed it, and I've been MOOing it in various flavours ever since.
Now I also MOO Rice a Riso. I did the same thing - checked the ingredients on the packet, went to the pantry and whipped up a bulk batch to have on hand for quick recipe bases and sides for dinner. It's also delicious cold as a salad!
A 180g packet of chicken Rice a Riso costs $2.20; to MOO it costs $1.22.
It's easy to MOO, and uses basic ingredients. You may need to by risoni, which is a type of pasta that resembles grains of rice. You can get it a Coles and Woolworths, off the shelf and it's not expensive.
I use Vegeta stock powder, but you can use MOO stock powders, and they can be vegetable or chicken or beef - whatever flavour you prefer.
I use my MOO dehydrated vegetables, but again, use whatever you like or have. I have a mixture of peas, corn, carrots, beans and onion, and add dehydrated mushrooms because we like mushrooms.
Ingredients:
115g rice
50g risoni
2 tbsp chicken stock powder (or stock powder of your choice)
1/4 cup dehydrated vegetables (of your choice)
To make bring 2-1/3 cups water to a boil. Add the MOO rice a riso and 1 tsp butter. Stir to mix, and then turn the heat down to a simmer. Simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes until the rice and risoni are soft and most of the liquid has been absorbed; I like to leave it a little creamy, a bit like a risotto. If you prefer it to be drier, more like a fried rice, keep it simmering until the liquid has absorbed. Stir it often so it doesn't stick to the pan and burn.
This makes four serves of MOO rice a riso.
This recipe can be made up in individual packets, and vacuum sealed, either in a bag or a jar, and kept on the pantry shelf.
