Cheapskaters love to save money, time, and energy.

And one of the simplest — and most powerful — ways to do all three?

We MOO.

MOO stands for Making Our Own — and for 31 days, we do it together.
This challenge isn’t about going without.

It’s about taking back control, using what you already have, and learning just how easy it is to replace expensive supermarket “convenience” products with simple, homemade alternatives that work just as well (often better).

If you’re doing the Super Shopper $300 a Month Food Challenge, 31 Days of MOO fits beautifully — because every MOO habit reduces grocery spending, cuts waste, and stretches what’s already in your pantry, fridge, and laundry.

What is MOOing (Making Our Own)?

There are so many things we buy that can just as easily be made at home — often for a fraction of the cost.

But since the rise of supermarkets and mass marketing, we’ve been gently trained to believe that:
• buying is better than making
• convenience equals ease
• homemade is hard, time-consuming, or old-fashioned
None of that is true.

When we first began living the Cheapskates way, many so-called “convenience” items had to come off our shopping list — not because we didn’t like them, but because the budget simply couldn’t stretch that far.
Things like:
• liquid hand soap
• ironing spray
• snack foods and desserts
• takeaway pizza
• laundry products
• biscuits, cakes, and ice blocks

And here’s the thing — we didn’t want to miss out.
So instead of giving them up, we found another way.
We made them ourselves.

That’s how MOOing began — not as a trend, but as a practical, budget-saving solution that quickly became a habit… and then a way of life.

What We MOO (Just a Taste)

During 31 Days of MOO, you’ll learn how to replace everyday supermarket buys with easy homemade versions — using simple ingredients, basic equipment, and methods that actually work.

Here are just some of the things we MOO:

🍽️ Food & Pantry
• Shake ’n’ Bake–style coating — versatile, long-lasting, and costs around $2.70 for 1.5kg
• Hotcakes & pancakes — cheaper, better, and just as fast as takeaway
• Pancake syrup — tastier than bottled imitations at under a quarter of the cost
• Bread, scones, cakes, biscuits & lunchbox snacks — no mystery ingredients, big savings
• Sauces, dressings, jams & spreads — fresher, cheaper, and genuinely delicious
• Yoghurt, yogos & custards — thick, creamy yoghurt for around $1.10 per kilo
• Ice blocks & frozen treats — made from juice, milk, or leftovers for cents
• Pizza & pastries — faster than delivery and far cheaper

🧺 Laundry & Cleaning
• Washing powder — under $3 for around 90 loads
• Fabric softener alternatives — pennies per wash
• Ironing spray — made in minutes from what you already have
• Spray-and-wipe cleaner — tough enough for real messes
• Glass & window cleaning — no product required
• Dishwasher detergent — cleaner results at a fraction of the cost
• Drain cleaner — safe, effective, and no harsh chemicals

And that’s just the beginning.

Why MOO Works (Especially for Super Shoppers)

MOOing isn’t about perfection.
It’s about systems.

When you MOO:
• you buy fewer processed products
• your grocery bill drops — often without trying
• your pantry works harder for you
• waste disappears
• and “emergency” supermarket trips become rare

That’s why MOO fits so naturally with the Super Shopper challenge.
Super Shoppers plan ahead.
MOOers replace instead of rebuying.
Together, they create calm, sustainable habits that stick — not just for 31 days, but all year.

It’s Not Hard. It Never Was.

Most of us were taught — very convincingly — that we can’t make these things ourselves.
That it’s too hard.
Too time-consuming.
Too complicated.
But once you try just one MOO recipe or swap?
Something clicks.

You realise:
• it takes minutes, not hours
• it doesn’t require special skills
• and you’ve been capable all along

We don’t MOO because we have to anymore.
We MOO because it’s better — for our families, our budgets, and our peace of mind.

Join the 31 Days of MOO Challenge

Whether you:
• start with one swap
• MOO alongside Super Shopper
• or dive in headfirst for all 31 days

You’ll finish this challenge knowing you can make what you need — and you don’t have to pay supermarket prices ever again.

Make it.
Save it.
Smile.
