Cashed Up Habit 1 of 17
Where Did the Money Go? Track Every Dollar for 21 Days
Learn how to track spending for 21 days, find hidden money leaks and build a simple household budgeting habit that helps you save more and waste less.
YOUR FOCUS FOR THE NEXT 21 DAYS
For 21 days, record every cent you spend. Include cash, card, direct debit, online purchases and buy-now-pay-later payments. Note what you bought, how much it cost and the broad category. At the end of each week, total your spending and circle anything that surprised you.

Why This Habit Matters
You cannot manage money you cannot see. Most household budgets are not wrecked by one spectacular purchase; they are weakened by ordinary spending that happens automatically. A few dollars here, a quick top-up shop there, a subscription you forgot about, a snack because you were out longer than planned - none seems dramatic on its own. Together they can swallow a surprising amount of money.
Tracking your spending is not about guilt. It is about information. When you write down every purchase, you stop relying on memory and start working with facts. That makes it much easier to make calm decisions about groceries, bills, treats, savings and debt.

Your three-week planWeek 1 - Notice - Record everything without trying to change too much. Your job is to observe. Pay special attention to small, frequent purchases and “just this once” spending.
Week 2 - Question - Keep tracking, but add one question before each non-essential purchase: “Do I want this more than I want my current money goal?” Notice what changes when you create that tiny pause.
Week 3 - Redirect - Choose one or two spending leaks you are happy to reduce. Move the money you do not spend to a real destination - savings, an emergency fund, debt repayment or a planned purchase.
Cheapskates shortcuts

Cheapskates shortcuts
- Keep the tracker where you will actually use it - handbag, desk, kitchen bench or phone.
- Record purchases immediately; “I’ll remember later” is where information disappears.
- Use broad categories such as groceries, transport, bills, eating out, household, personal and fun.
- Do not count transfers between your own accounts as spending.
- At the end of 21 days, identify one leak to plug permanently rather than trying to change everything at once.
YOUR CASHED-UP WIN
At the end of this habit you should know where your money is going and have at least one specific spending change you can keep. Awareness is your first cashed-up advantage.
