How to Save Money on Groceries with RACV and Everyday Rewards eGift Card Discounts
If you’re a Victorian RACV member, don’t overlook one of the easiest ways to quietly reduce your grocery and household spending — discounted eGift cards.
Buying discounted gift cards before you shop can shave money off purchases you were already planning to make, and over time those small percentages really add up.
As at 16/2/26, these discounts were available through the RACV website:
• Simply Groceries eGift Card — 4% discount
• Everyday WISH eGift Card — 3% discount
• EG eGift Card — 3% discount
• Dan Murphy’s eGift Card — 5% discount
• BWS eGift Card — 5% discount
• Woolworths Supermarket eGift Card — 4% discount
• Essentials eGift Card — 4% discount
• BIG W eGift Card — 5% discount
The discount on Woolworths eGift cards used to be even better, but saving 3–5% on money you were already going to spend is still worthwhile — especially for regular grocery shopping.
The eGift cards are now sent by both email and text message. I personally prefer accessing them from my email because it’s easier to keep track of everything in one place.
One feature I really like is being able to save the gift cards directly into the Everyday Rewards app. The Woolworths Group usually updates your remaining balance within a day or so, making it very easy to see exactly how much you still have available to spend.
How to Add Your eGift Card to the Everyday Rewards App
If you haven’t used this feature before, it’s quite simple:
1. Open the Everyday Rewards app
2. Go to the Wallet section
3. Tap the + symbol in the top right-hand corner
4. Choose “Add a Gift Card”
5. Either:
○ use your phone camera to scan the barcode from your computer screen, or
○ copy and paste the 19-digit card number manually
6. Enter the PIN from the eGift card
7. Tap ADD at the bottom of the page
Your gift card will then appear in your Wallet, ready for your next shop.
How to Pay with an eGift Card at Woolworths
If you’re using self-service checkout, remember that “Gift Card” is not usually the default payment option on the EFTPOS machine.
When you’re ready to pay:
• Open the Everyday Rewards app
• Go to Wallet → My Gift Cards
• Display the barcode
• Scan it using the same scanner used for groceries
• Enter the PIN when prompted
If you’re using a staffed checkout, let the cashier know you’ll be paying with a gift card so they can select the correct payment option.
If your gift card balance is lower than your purchase total, simply tell the cashier the remaining balance before payment.
Another Small Saving Worth Knowing
As at 16/2/26, the Everyday Rewards website was also offering:
• 3% off Woolworths eGift Cards
• 3% off BIG W eGift Cards
Small savings layered together are very much the Cheapskates way.
A few percent off groceries here, discounted household items there, and buying ahead when prices are lower may not feel dramatic in one week — but over months and years it can make a very noticeable difference to the family budget.

How $20 Each Pay Can Build a Stockpile and Slash Your Grocery Bill
One simple habit has helped us build a useful pantry stockpile without blowing the grocery budget. Each pay day — pension day for us — I take $20 from the grocery money and use it to buy the very best special I can find on something we regularly use. Sometimes it’s toothpaste. Sometimes it’s chicken fillets. Sometimes it’s laundry powder, rice, coffee or canned goods. The important thing is that it’s something we actually use and it’s genuinely on a good special. Over time, those small $20 purchases build up into a really helpful household buffer. Instead of constantly paying full price, we gradually stock up when prices are low. That means fewer emergency shops, less panic buying and much lower grocery costs in the long run.
