Lesson 43: Cheapskating Couples
Hello Revolutionists,
If you've made it this far in the Cheapskating Couples foray into the Saving Revolution you’ve done well. Dealing with a spouse or partner who often isn't quite of the same financial mindset as you can be challenging, but as you've found over the past three weeks, it can be done. And done without stress.
This week you get to sit back with cool drink and reflect back on what you've accomplished and learned in lessons 40, 41 and 42. You've accomplished a lot in three weeks.
You started on a positive note (remember you opened the conversation with something affirming?) and you're going to end on a positive as well. This week use your financial chat time to say something else affirming about your spouse or partner, something positive that they've done over the last three weeks.
It could be along the lines of "thanks for listening to me, I really appreciate being able to talk to you about our finances" or "I really appreciate your support in getting our finances under control, you don't know how much that means to me".
You'll know what to say, because you've been the recipient of the positive action.
Just keep in mind that Rome wasn't built in a day, and your finances aren't going to miraculously be in great shape overnight, or with just three joint sessions.
It's like going to the gym. You need to go regularly (I've heard a minimum of three 30 minute sessions a week) to get fit, so you need to work on your finances regularly, together, to become a financially fit Cheapskating couple.
After a while, when you and your partner have worked out together, you'll realise it's getting easier to have those all important financial talks. You'll find yourself a stronger, smarter and more fiscally fit couple.
Lesson 43 Challenge: Review Lessons 40, 41 and 42. Say something positive to your spouse. Review exactly what you hope to accomplish together, then set a time for your next Cheapskating Couples workout. Update your blog if you haven't.
