This year, one of the goals I’ve set for myself is to pause more often.
Not big, dramatic pauses. Not luxury retreats or expensive treatments. Just small, intentional moments where I stop for a few minutes and breathe. To literally smell the roses. To go for a gentle walk. To enjoy a cuppa on the back verandah. To be present instead of rushing on to the next thing. Because here’s the truth we don’t say often enough: If you don’t care for yourself, you can’t care effectively for your family. So many of us run on empty. We look after everyone else first — the kids, the household, the budget, the plans — and tell ourselves we’ll get to ourselves later. Later becomes next week. Next month. Next year. But caring for yourself isn’t indulgent. It isn’t selfish. And it certainly isn’t a waste of time. Those small pauses are what keep us steady. They protect our energy, our patience, our health, and our sense of self. A calm, rested version of you copes better with the ups and downs of family life — and enjoys it more too. My Pamper Pause This Week Last night, my pause looked a little different: I took 20 minutes to tint my eyelashes. Now, that might sound extravagant at first glance — but I promise you, it wasn’t. The kit cost $14 from Coles (Priceline would normally be my first stop, but it was closed), and there are 10 applications in the box. That works out at $1.40 per application. I’ll comfortably get around eight uses, with results lasting up to six weeks each time. That’s almost a year of pampering for $14. I’ve been thinking about eyelash tinting for a couple of months. Mascara — and I’ve spent a fortune on it over the last seven months — irritates my eyes terribly. Red, itchy, uncomfortable. I don’t wear makeup at home, but when I’m out and about or recording videos, I like to wear just a little. Without mascara, though, my eyelashes practically disappear. Professional eyelash tinting is expensive, and I was dreading the cost. Doing it myself felt like a practical, affordable solution — and I’m absolutely thrilled with the result. No irritation. No ongoing expense. And the quiet satisfaction of doing it myself. Pampering Isn’t Wasteful — It’s Essential Taking time to care for yourself isn’t about vanity. It’s about wellbeing. A pamper pause can support: • Your mental health by slowing your thoughts • Your physical health by reducing stress • Your self-esteem by reminding you that you matter • Your family life, because a calmer you copes better with everything else And it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. In fact, it shouldn’t. A Year of Pamper Pauses Throughout this year, I’ll be taking — and sharing — my Pamper Pauses. Every one of them will be: • Simple • Budget-friendly • Cheapskates-approved • Doable in real life They won’t be about perfection or luxury. They’ll be about kindness to yourself, taken in small, affordable, realistic ways. So consider this your gentle reminder: Pause. Breathe. Care for yourself — because you are worth caring for. 💕 Members’ Pamper Pause Invitation If you’re a Cheapskates Club member, I’d love you to join me in this year of gentle, budget-friendly self-care.
