The 2026 Inflation Reset Challenge Week 1

Pantry First Living the Cheapskates Way

Welcome to Week 1 of the 2026 Inflation Reset Challenge
If grocery prices have been making you feel frustrated lately, you are definitely not alone.
Many of us are noticing the same thing:
spending more at the supermarket
bringing home fewer groceries
paying more for the same meals and habits
And honestly, it can feel discouraging.
But here’s the good news:
You do not need to panic.
You do not need to overhaul your entire life overnight.
And you certainly do not need to give up living well.
The Cheapskates Way has never been about deprivation.
Even during difficult financial seasons, our goal is still to live:
💰debt free
💰cashed up
 💰and laughing
This challenge is about learning how to respond to rising prices calmly, practically, and intentionally — so inflation does not control the way we live.

Calm Budgeting Instead of Panic
Over the past few years, there has been so much stress, fear, and panic around money, shortages, and the cost of living.
But panic rarely helps.
What helps is:
  • calm budgeting
  • simple money-saving systems
habits that quietly support your home over time
That’s what we focus on inside the Cheapskates Club.
We do not rush.
We do not panic.
We simply take steady steps that add up.
And that approach works.

Why Week 1 Matters So Much
Week 1 is all about a very important mindset shift:
👉 Pantry First Living.
Before you shop.
Before you spend.
Before you meal plan.
You start with what you already have.
This is called a pantry reset.
And no, it is not a “one and done” task.
Like washing dishes or doing laundry, pantry resets need to happen regularly.
The good news?
The more often you do them, the easier and more effective they become.

The Real Reason Grocery Budgets Blow Out
Most people try to save money on groceries by:
  • chasing specials
  • switching brands
  • buying in bulk
And while those things can help…
Often they simply lead to:
  • more stuff coming into the house
  • duplicate buying
  • wasted food
  • overspending without a plan
Without knowing:
  • what you already have
  • what your household actually uses
  • what needs replacing
  • and what is simply taking up space
…it becomes very easy to waste money unintentionally.
That’s why pantry-first living is so powerful.

Pantry First Living
This week, instead of asking:
“What do I need to buy?”
Ask:
“What can I make from what I already have?”
That one simple shift can:
  • cut your grocery bill
  • reduce waste
  • reduce stress
  • create easy budget-friendly meals
Because most homes already contain more food than people realise.

Your Pantry Reset Challenge
This week’s challenge is simple.
Take time to:
  • open every cupboard
  • check the fridge
  • check the freezer
No guilt.
No judgement.
Just awareness.

Step 1 — Group Like With Like
Put:
• tins together
• baking supplies together
• packets together
• snacks together
This helps you clearly see what you already own.

Step 2 — Find the Forgotten Foods
We all have them.
The packet hidden at the back of the pantry.
The freezer item we forgot existed.
The duplicate ingredients.
And often, your first savings come simply from using what you already paid for.

Step 3 — Build Meals From What You Have
Instead of:
“What ingredients do I need?”
Try asking:
“What meals can I make from this?”
This is the beginning of pantry-first meal planning — one of the simplest ways to reduce grocery spending without feeling deprived.

The Use-It-Up Meal Plan
This week, keep things very simple:
2–3 meals from pantry ingredients
1 “use-it-up” meal
That’s all.
This small shift can:
skip a grocery shop
save $30–$70
reduce waste
create breathing room in the budget
And it’s a gentle introduction to a no-spend mindset without feeling extreme.

MOO (Make Our Own)
Once you know what you already have, you can begin asking “What can I stop buying?”
That’s where MOO — Make Our Own — becomes incredibly powerful.
Because MOO systems help us:
reduce dependence on supermarkets
stabilise spending
build resilience during inflation
simplify everyday life.
And we’ll dive into that more deeply in Week 2.

This Is About More Than Groceries
Ultimately, this challenge is not really about pantry shelves or shopping lists.
It’s about:
creating structure
building confidence
 reducing stress
learning to run our homes intentionally
That’s how we move steadily toward:
debt free living
calmer budgeting
more resilient households
Not overnight.
But one small step at a time.

Final Encouragement
You do not need to do everything perfectly this week.
You do not need a perfectly organised pantry.
You simply need to:
  • open the cupboard
  • choose one meal
  • take one step
That is enough.
Because small steps repeated consistently create powerful change over time.
And that’s the Cheapskates Way.
💚 Debt Free
💚 Cashed Up
💚 And Laughing
