The 2026 Inflation Reset Week 3

Cut The Leaks

If rising prices, grocery bills, and the cost of living are starting to feel overwhelming right now… take a deep breath.

You do not need to panic.

You do not need to fix everything overnight.

And you certainly do not need to become perfect at budgeting to improve your financial situation.

Welcome to Week 3 of the 2026 Inflation Reset Challenge — where we focus on something that quietly affects almost every household budget:
the little spending leaks most people don’t even notice.

Because most budgets do not completely fall apart because of one enormous purchase.

They slowly leak away through:

quick supermarket runs
takeaway spending
impulse purchases
convenience shopping
“just this once” extras

And over time, those small leaks quietly drain money, energy, and confidence.

This week is not about guilt or deprivation.

It’s about awareness.

Because awareness changes everything.

Calm Budgeting Instead of Panic Spending
One thing I really want to encourage throughout this challenge is calm budgeting.

Not harsh budgeting.

Not punishing budgeting.

Not fear-based budgeting.

Calm budgeting.

Because the calmer we are, the better decisions we make.

When inflation rises, stress rises too.

And when people feel stressed or overwhelmed, convenience starts looking very attractive.

That’s normal.

The problem is that convenience is often expensive.

And those little conveniences add up quickly.

This week is about slowing things down enough to notice where your money is quietly slipping away — and gently creating systems that reduce stress and help you feel more in control.

Day 1 — Where the Money Goes
Most people are not overspending because they’re irresponsible.

They’re overspending because:
  • they’re tired
  • busy
  • stressed
  • mentally overloaded

And when we are overwhelmed, it becomes much easier to spend reactively.

You may discover:
quick supermarket runs cost more than planned shops
takeaway happens on the same stressful evenings
impulse spending increases when you’re tired or hungry

That awareness is incredibly powerful.

Because once you notice the patterns, you gain choice.

And when we have choice, we regain control.

Day 2 — Awareness Day
Today’s challenge is simple:
👉 Notice every dollar spent.

That’s all.

No guilt.
No shame.
No panic.

Just awareness.

Write it down if you can:
  • coffees
  • snacks
  • “little extras”
  • quick purchases

Often the surprising thing isn’t one huge expense.

It’s how many tiny expenses quietly happen without thought.

One of the reasons the Cheapskates Way works so well is because we slow things down enough to notice what’s really happening.

And once we notice, we can begin changing things calmly and intentionally.

Day 3 — Emergency Meals Change Everything
Emergency meals are one of the simplest systems for reducing stress and saving money.

Honestly, they save more budgets than almost anything else.

Because takeaway usually doesn’t happen because people are lazy.

It happens because they’re exhausted and don’t know what to cook.

So instead of relying on willpower, we create systems.

Simple systems reduce pressure.

That’s why I encourage every household to have:
✔ three emergency meals
✔ ingredients always available
✔ meals that are quick, comforting, and practical

Not fancy.

Not Instagram-worthy.

Just useful.

Things like:
  • soup from the freezer
  • eggs on toast
  • toasted sandwiches
  • pasta with a quick sauce
  • baked potatoes
  • fried rice using leftovers

Emergency meals remove panic.

And when we remove panic, we spend less.

Day 4 — No Quick Shop Day
Today’s challenge is a powerful one:
🚫 No quick shop.
No “just ducking in.”
No wandering through the supermarket because you’re unsure what’s for dinner.

Instead use what you have.

This can feel uncomfortable at first because many of us are used to shopping being the automatic solution to every problem.

Need dinner? Shop.
Out of ideas? Shop.
Feeling stressed? Shop.

But often the answer is already sitting in the pantry or freezer.

This is where pantry-first living becomes life-changing.

Because you stop depending on the shops to rescue you every day.

And that creates confidence.

Day 5 — The Grocery Slush Fund
One tiny habit that makes a surprisingly big emotional difference is creating a grocery slush fund.

This is very simple.

If you come in under budget keep $5 or $10 aside.

Over time, that little buffer helps with:
✔ rising prices
✔ stockpiling specials
✔ difficult weeks
✔ unexpected shortages

But perhaps even more importantly…

It changes how you feel.

You stop feeling like you are constantly scrambling to catch up.

And calm buffers create calm decisions.

Day 6 — The Confidence Shift
By this stage of the challenge, something usually begins to change.

You start feeling:
✔ calmer
✔ more aware
✔ more prepared

You may notice:
  • fewer impulse purchases
  • less panic shopping
  • more confidence opening the pantry
  • less stress around dinner

And that’s because systems create stability.

This is what the Cheapskates Way has always been about:
not perfection
not extremes
just building homes that quietly support us through difficult seasons

Day 7 — Weekly Reflection
As we finish Week 3, take a moment to reflect.

Did you:
✔ notice spending patterns?
✔ avoid quick shops?
✔ use emergency meals?
✔ feel less reactive around money?

Even tiny changes matter.

Especially tiny changes.

Because small changes repeated consistently become habits.

And habits shape households.

You do not need dramatic action to improve your financial future.

You need calm, steady systems.

If rising prices are making you anxious right now, please remember this:

You do not need to solve everything today.

You do not need a perfect pantry.

You do not need to become someone completely different overnight.

Just keep taking small steps:

one emergency meal
one skipped quick shop
one thoughtful decision at a time

That is enough.

And over time, those small decisions build:
calmer homes
stronger budgets
more confidence

And that’s how we continue living:
💚 Debt Free
💚 Cashed Up
💚 And Laughing
