100 Days to a Cheapskates Style Christmas Day 11 Knitted Dishcloths

Picture
These dishcloths are strong. And long lasting. And they clean beautifully. And they are pretty. Just because it's a dishcloth, doesn't mean it can't be pretty. Pretty makes a tedious job much more pleasant.

This dishcloth is my favourite pattern. It's really quick, really easy, and knits up quickly. Knitting on the diagonal gives a bit more interest to the dishcloth, rather than the traditional garter stitch square.

You will need:
8 ply 100% cotton yarn
4mm knitting needles.

Cast on three stitches.
Rows 1 & 2: knit to end.
Row 3: K1, increase in next stitch by knitting twice into the next stitch, knit to end.
Row 4. K1, increase in next stitch by knitting twice into the next stitch, knit to end.
Repeat rows 3 and 4 until you have 50 stitches on your needle.
Knit two rows.
Next row: K1, knit 2 together, knit to end of row.
Next row: K1, knit 2 together, knit to end of row.
Repeat rows last two rows until you have 3 stitches on your needle.
Knit 2 rows.
Cast off. Weave tails in.

Notes: I prefer to use Bernat Handicrafter Cotton for dishcloths, but it has become very expensive, and is hard to get. Bendigo Woollen Mills sell a lovely 100% cotton yarn that comes in beautiful colours and it is often on sale.

Bamboo yarn knits up to make a cloth that is so soft and luxurious feeling. Use bamboo yarn to knit face washers.
