31 Days of MOO No. 18 Pear Butter
It is pear season and I've seen them for as low as $1 a kilo over the last few weeks.
Pears are delicious fresh, but they don't keep long in the fruit bowl. A tasty way to enjoy them year round is to make pear butter, and the easiest way is to get out your slowcooker and put it to work!
Ingredients:
3kg pears, peeled and cored
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp cinnamon powder
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp nutmeg
Method:
Peel, core and dice the pears.
Place all the ingredients in the slowcooker.
Cook on HIGH for 4 hours, stirring occasionally.
When the pears are soft and completely broken down, and a honey brown colour, they are done.
Use a stick blender to puree until smooth.
Transfer to sterilised jars. Store, covered, in the fridge for 3 weeks or process for 20 minutes in a hot water bath for shelf stable pear butter that will keep for 12 months.
