Fake the Cake for Wedding Perfection

I found the most beautiful cake on Martha Stewart weddings website - as everything else for our wedding is nice and simple I wanted the cake to make a statement and be a decoration on its own but we just don't have the budget - until my to be mother in law announced that she would make the cake! I showed her the picture and asked her to scale the design down a bit - but she wants to go for the grand statement. Our secret - four layers of the cake will be icing covered foam! The biggest (and only real) layer will be served to the guests. Mum to be is starting on the sugar work several months early, and has also advised that it will be her gift to us! We're going to save hundreds! It never occurred to me to fake the cake!

Buy Cake Tins and Bake Your Own Wedding Cake

Wedding cakes can be quite expensive so I've bought the most amazing cake tins that any one can bake a everyday cake and have it looking like you've spent heaps. These are Canadian made and I made it for a friend, a large Rose as the centre piece and put all different coloured small roses around its base eg' Large Chocolate, with strawberry, and white chocolate smaller ones circling it. Add a colour co-ordinated Ribbon which could be the same as the theme or bridesmaid dresses and it looked a million dollars. All for the price of a packet mix or as I did made my own cake .I also have a Cathedral shape which again is very unusual. Check out your local Cake decorating shop to see what is available. These days people prefer normal cake but you could always make the main one your choice and put small fruit cakes around it. Contact me if you would like any other ideas as I have heaps of them.

My Daughter's Wedding Cake Was Made by a Friend

The friend gave it to the happy couple as a wedding gift - savings for both parties. Other skilled friends might help with things like invitation design and printing, thank you cards, name cards for the guests, floral arrangements and the bouquets - check among your list of friends and see how their skills can help out, and then ask them to give these skills to you as gifts. Happy Wedding Day.

Local Cake Decorators Make Half Price Wedding Cakes

You can buy half price wedding cakes from lots of ladies that like to make wedding cakes as a hobby. Some of them advertise in the local community paper and they do lovely sugar work. You can also ring the cake decorators association of WA or equivalent in your state. They are listed in the yellow pages and they can refer you to a local cake decorator.

Cheesecake Shop Wedding Cake

To save money on a wedding cake, go to the cheesecake shop, they make a bigger size cake and by buying 3 big size mud cakes it will cost under $200 which is lots cheaper than buying a wedding cake. - Contributed by Jenny, Elizabeth Downs

Ask Around For Help

To save money on your wedding ask all of your family and friends if they know any one who can make the type of cake you are looking for , maybe they can decorate it or see if you can get a cake shop to decorate it for you.
