Put a Message on Your MOO Christmas Gift Tags
Approximate $ Savings: $10
After Christmas each year, I collect the cards I have on display and pop them into my Christmas box (wrapping, filler pressies, decorations etc.). Then for next year's Christmas, I cut the card in half and use the front cover as a tag. One side has a beautiful Christmas picture, and the other side is blank for a nice long message (I like to put personal messages on my Christmas tags).

Peg Up the Cards
My Christmas card were always blowing all over the place when the doors and windows were left open for a cool breeze. Now I peg them to the Christmas tree for decorations, this decorates the tree with others best wishes, and means that you don't have to pick up the card every time the door or window is open for the breeze.

Greetings Workshop at Home
When our first child was born we made our own Christmas cards. We used "Greetings Workshop" software, but there are a lot of different types of software around. Using A4 paper we put a photo of us and the new baby on the front cover. We personalised the cards including other photos and printed a letter on the inside to let people know what we had been doing during the year. We had so many comments about the cards, we have done them this way every year since. Every year people 'watched' the children growing. It was cheap but more than that it was very personal and relatives and friends loved it.

Recycle Nice Cards into Gift Tags
Approximate $ Savings: $10-20
Keep all your Christmas cards that you are sent. Cut them down into gift cards to put on your gifts. Some cards have too much personal writing on from your friends so pick the ones with a nice Christmas design without writing on the back. I cut out pictures then fold them in half to make a small gift card to go on presents. All that's left is to write the persons name on it and cellotape them on to your presents. I reckon you could save as much as $10-20 a year. Do the same with any other cards you receive.

Individual Gift Cards
I find after Christmas I have dozens of Christmas cards received from friends. Instead of putting them in the recycling bin in the new year, I make Christmas present tags for the next Christmas. People only write on the inside page where it says 'merry Christmas etc' and so the front page with beautiful picture is blank on the back. Cut the full card in half, hole punch in the top corner of the pictured page, write your message on the back of it i.e. 'To Mum, Merry Christmas' and there you have a perfect gift tag. I always get comments on how beautiful my gift tags are. I haven't bought Christmas gift tags for presents for years and no 2 are the same!

Gift Tags from Favourite Cards
Instead of paying $4 plus for a card, I reuse the ones I get by cutting around the picture at the front and then using them as a gift tags. (It only works if the person who gave the card to you hasn't written on the inside cover of the card.) I save all the birthday pictures, special occasion and Christmas cards and cut out all the designs. You can then use them as gift tags at Christmas time or for birthdays . Trust me no 4 year old is interested in the card itself, just the present usually. My 4 year old also likes this box and makes collages out of all the left over card cut outs to make one big special birthday card for Gran. This saves me approximately $50 per year.

Reject Cards Beautiful Quality, Even Better Price
It is nice to send quality Christmas cards instead of the cheap and nasties, but as I send around 50 cards this can be quite expensive. The other day I discovered the Reject Shop stocks cards from last year of a beautiful quality for $2 - $3 a pack. These cards retail at $9.95 a pack, saving over 70%. So now I can send beautiful cards without the cost. Contributed by Chelsea, Forrestfield
Free Business Cards
www.vistaprint.com.au has free business cards - you only pay for the postage, which is very cheap. Think outside the square and personalise your card to say whatever you like - you don't have to run a business to utilise these cards. For example, I have a set with all our contact details or just my name and email address or mobile number to hand out to people when I need to give out contact details quickly. Customising these free cards is easy and there are lots of designs to choose from. You could make gift tags out of them with just the wording "With love from" for example. The possibilities are endless and only limited by your imagination. Check their website for other freebies & great offers from time to time. I've ordered many different things; they've all arrived safely and just as I ordered them. Use their note cards for Christmas updates telling of your family's adventures over the year to include with Christmas cards - they have a great customised cartoon feature for members of the whole family.

Making Gift Tags
Further to Margaret's tip of the 18th January regarding making gift tags by recycling old Christmas cards. If you have a pair of "Pinking Shears" (scissors with serrated cutting edges) these make the finished cards even more decorative.

Gift Tags
I gather all my Christmas and birthday cards during the year and then work out which ones are suitable for cutting up for gift tags. Ones with small square designs on the fronts work really well and often you can get two or three from one card. Put a hole in one corner and use with ribbon tied around the present, they look great.
