30 Days of Christmas Cooking Day 14: Christmas Caramel Crunch Slice
This is a salty sweet caramel and chocolate slice that goes really well with a cup of tea or coffee with visitors, as well as being a lip smackingly good treat to box up and give as a gift.
Ingredients:
1 tin condensed milk*
60g butter
1 packet crackers (Salada/Saltine style)
200g milk chocolate (melts or block)
3 - 4 candy cranes, crushed (use a rolling pin, it's easier)
Method:
Line the base of a slice tray with baking paper. Break up the crackers to fit the base of the tray.
Put the condensed milk and the butter in small saucepan. Bring to the boil over a medium heat, stirring. Turn the heat down and let the mixture simmer for 5 - 6 minutes until it turns golden and thickens. Remove from the heat. Pour over the crackers. Bake in a moderate oven for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool. Once the caramel is cooled, melt the milk chocolate and spread over the top of the caramel. Sprinkle with the crushed candy canes. Chill to set. Cut into small squares to serve.
