Half Price Date Nights, Lunches, Entertainment & Dinner Outings and Pamper Packages
Approximate $ Savings: $20+ per occasion to hundreds/thousands over the years
Due to our financial situation, my Fiancé and I are always looking for new ways to make our money go further. We realised that with the rising costs of everything and reduction in our budget, we really couldn't afford to do the things we previously wouldn't have given a second thought to nor could we afford to live our lifestyle the way we use to. This meant more staying at home and less treats and outings.
However, in the last few months this has changed as we have been using vouchers to go out and treat ourselves at a saving of 50% or more of what we would normally have to pay to go out. The vouchers that we buy are called “Scoopons” and they are offered on the website www.scoopon.com.au for all the major cities in Australia.
In the past, i've purchased scoopons for many things. For my Fiance's birthday I bought a pamper package haircut at an upmarket salon in the city for $35 (worth $85) so that he could have a treat as I usually cut his hair myself. They gave him a beer on arrival, wash, cut, style and a travel pack of hair products to take home.
My sister loves rockclimbing, so for her birthday, she got scoopons to The Edge Rockclimbing Centre. Entry and harness hire for two people was $15, whereas normally it's $20 per adult, so this is more than a 50% saving of $25!
Then on the weekends when we want to have a date night, I pull out a pre-purchased Burgerman scoopon and we head to Darlinghurst for a gourmet burger dinner and a stroll around the streets, enjoying the nightlife. For a $20 scoopon we get $50 worth of food and drinks! The prices are good, so for that amount of value we get two gourmet organic steak burgers with homemade sauces, bowl of crispy fries, two special topping Belgian chocolate milkshakes and two Belgian chocolate crackles for dessert. Food is awesome at Burgerman!
There are also plenty more deals for different places, like $1 pizzas at Elvis or cheap tapas restaurant scoopons and lots of other foodie scoopons.
Also, the website offers less than half price massages and hair and beauty pamper packages from time to time.
We also found scoopons for cheap weekend getaways, like accommodation and wine and cheese tours at the Hunter Valley. There's also harbour cruise and tall ship dinners and buffets at discounts of 50% plus on offer sometimes. These would be a good idea for an anniversary dinner, formal party or buy out a heap for a wedding reception (which we may do!).
Another good idea is to buy scoopons as gifts for Birthdays, Wedding presents, Christmas, etc. This is a great way to afford to give someone a fun and entertaining gift. You could also arrange with a group to organise a special event or kids birthday bash at a big saving. I've seen scoopons for going skating and go-karting, which would be good for kids and teenage birthdays.
An experience we recently had was using scoopons to organise a group of friends to go for a retro bowling night out at Manhattan Superbowl. It was 2 games, shoe hire, large pub meal and a drink for $18 per person. On the night we were there, there was also a DJ playing all the retro music with the disco lights going, we had a ball! Looking at the menu(food was provided by the pub next door), we saw that the meal and drink alone costed $18 or more and so the 2 games of bowling and shoe hire were FREE, without the scoopon it would've costed approx. $40 per person.
The scoopon website offers new deals everyday Monday-Friday at midday with some deals running into the weekend. There is only one main deal a day and they and the side deals offered are usually only run for 24 to 72 hours (shown on the website's countdown timer). So I get the deal reminders delivered daily in my email inbox. The only catch is that scoopons have to be prepaid via credit card or debit credit card. When you want to use it, you just print out the scoopon and take it with you, easy! Scoopons from the website have an expiry date from anywhere between 6 months to 1 year from the date of purchase which I think is reasonable. Make sure to remember to check the conditions to determine if scoopons are suitable for your use before you purchase them though.
I am not in anyway linked to “Scoopon” or their website. Just a happy customer and regular Cheapskater who can now afford to treat myself to more fun outings at bargain prices :) www.scoopon.com.au

Free Budget Entertainment Booklet
Check the concierge of your local shopping centre (such as Westfield Shopping Centres) . You can obtain a booklet of entertainment vouchers where restaurants and fast food outlets are offering two for one meals and other discount offers. As a single mother I am often looking for cheap ways to entertain my children. There are lots of free activities to do but my children do love to 'eat out'. Using these vouchers makes it an affordable way to treat the children and keep them happy. My children are used to having most things whenever they want wanted, until we became a separated family. If we felt like going out to dinner we would, but being recently separated, my young children do not understand why money is an issue. Using these vouchers makes it affordable for my children to live as close to what they are used to as possible.

Entertainment Book Value for Everyone
Approximate $ Savings: $5,000 plus
I had always seen the Entertainment Books but had never purchased one until March Last year. I didn't realise that they had other great offers other than Restaurant discounts. I use this to purchase Coles gift cards which cost $95.00 for a $100 value. These can also be used at BiLo. They also have a great online shopping facility. I have used this many times and have received a lot of goods for up to half the store purchase price. My son and I also use the buy one, get one free entertainment vouchers to do things that we wouldn't normally do due to the cost. Overall it is well worth spending the $50 initially. They run pro rata, so if you purchase the next financial years prior to the end of March, $10 from the $50 spent gets donated to the facility that you’re purchasing through (usually $5 is donated) and you also receive a few extra discount vouchers. A great help to everyone. You can find out where to purchase these through: www.entertainmentbook.com.au

Endless Savings
Approximate $ Savings Endless
Through a friend I've come across entertainment books. These are books, which are purchased so as to raise money for fundraising for schools etc also benefits others in the big picture. It is a book full of vouchers ranging from nice restaurants to takeway, movie vouchers, activities like ten pin bowling, cruises, car hire, accommodation etc. The book costs anywhere from $50 -$60 and with two vouchers we have already nearly saved that amount. It has given us the opportunity to go to places that we might not have been able afford visit before and is great value all round. It would also make a great gift for someone or you can swap vouchers which others for places you might not go to. The new book comes out soon and I'm also going to use some of the vouchers for gifts eg a restaurant voucher and a bottle of wine or movie tickets and popcorn and snacks. The savings are endless and I couldn't believe the range of options that it has. It not only helps me get out more and save money in the process but helps my sons daycare get some much needed extra funds to buy things with. It's a WIN WIN!!!!!!!! The entertainment book offers 25% to 50% off or 2 for 1 offers and runs from June 2007 to 2008 so go and get yourself one and have some fun with it like I intend to do with my family.

Entertainment Book Fundraiser
The SIDS organization currently promotes the Entertainment Book as a fundraiser. It costs $60 but the savings are almost endless from restaurant meals (from fancy to take-away), movies, outings and accommodation. We have been purchasing it for three years now and use it so much we bought the Sydney version before our trip. Our savings always overtake the cost of the book (sometimes into the hundreds!) and it's good to know that SIDS gets a percentage of the cover price.

Entertainment Book
Every year I buy a book called the Entertainment Book. It is full of dining, takeaway, dry-cleaning, video rental, car wash, accommodation, ice-skating, beauty and so many more vouchers. The vouchers vary from place to place and you can get 2 for 1, 25% off, 50% off depending on what the company offers. It is available for areas in Adelaide, Brisbane, Sunshine and Gold Coast, Canberra, Central Coast, Newcastle, Hunter, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and more areas. Non-profit organizations usually sell these books as fundraisers and they cost approx $45-$55. Vouchers are valid from June 1 to June 1 the following year. I have saved myself more than $1500 by using these vouchers, and the good thing about it you can give some vouchers to friends and family so they can share in the savings. The head office is in Sydney 02 9906 3066 or email: [email protected] to find out which local charity you can buy this book from. Don't miss out!

Docket savings for Holiday Treats
We live in the country and don't always get the benefits of shop-a-dockets and fast food specials vouchers when we go to Adelaide or other larger towns. Now I always visit www.hotdockets.com.au before we go and almost always find something I can print and use to save us a few dollars.
