No need to buy an iPod!
Approximate $ Savings: $200+
We often have to travel by car long distances to visit elderly family members. My children are constantly pestering us to buy them an iPod each for music and movies; as drawing, reading and generally playing with toys gets us only so far on the drive in peace! I do not have, and do not want, to waste money on in-car DVD players as the children know, so they are always pestering us to buy them each an iPod. Even for birthday presents finances just do not stretch for the cost of $200+ per iPod. Recently DH and I had our mobile phone plans run out and decided to upgrade to new phones that were for free on our new chosen plans. When I was deleting everything off our old phones before donating them to be recycled, I thought that we had once put a movie for the kids on the phone, so why not delete everything then fill it up with a few movies for them to watch just like an IPOD!!! Each child now has one of our old mobile phones with a couple of their favorite movies on it, at a cost of nothing to us. We also purchased from Big W "Laser Kids stereo headphones", which are child volume-safe and are big comfy headphones that sit over their heads for only $9 each! The kids are pleased as punch, our drives are a lot quieter and safer, and all for the grand total of $18!

Wii Games for Bargain Basement Prices
Approximate $ Savings: $7.01
Toy catalogues: my son is pouring over them! I took advantage of the K-mart policy of price matching again, I often use this; for my son's birthday in may he got a Wii so we looked at the games, he chose the Avatar game pictured in the Big W catalogue for $28.84, we took this to K-mart and they took 10% off the difference in prices. Theirs was $99 so take away the Big W price and the subsequent discount is $7.01 so We got the game for $21.83. Another place we shop for Wii games is a website called seconddisc.com.au We have never had any problems with the secondhand ones and have not paid more than $22 for one. If they run out of stock of a secondhand item you get a new one and they post it to you for free. So my son gets a sweat up and can play a game as well, just waiting until the Wii fit goes down in price, on this site it is still $110.

CD Cleaner
Approximate $ Savings: $5
Do you have scratched CDs? Instead of buying store cleaning/scratch remover products try using a small amount of nail polish remover on a cotton ball. Wipe over the scratches, then dry with a clean cotton ball. This has worked for me.

Free Headphones
Next time you or a friend fly Virgin Blue, make sure you grab a spare set of their free white coloured headphones to listen to music. Plus there are lots of once used headphones that people leave as they exit the plane (they're thrown away, as in "landfill"). You can use them yourself or your kids can use them for their MP3 player. Give them a quick clean and off you go. They usually last me about 6 months before they die. Happy listening.

Cheap iPods
Many of us would love to own an iPod - we just don't want to pay the price! However, I have discovered you can save as much as 63% on paying full retail price by purchasing direct from the Apple website (www.apple.com/au). Simply click on 'Store', find 'Special Deals' in the left hand column and click on 'Refurbished iPod'. Ipod shuffles start from $44.00. All come with full 12 month warranties, free postage and arrive within two days. An excellent deal and one to make your kids happy.
