Tip Store: Weddings: The Flowers

Simple Wedding Posies

Approximate $ Savings: $50.00 for each posy

This is a low cost but stunning idea for flowers for bridesmaids posies. Never mention the word wedding at the florist otherwise price is inflated My daughter paid $20 for the lot plus a couple of flowers of your choice. Ask for enough "baby's breath" otherwise known as "Gypsophila" without mentioning the word Wedding. Pick up from florist the night before and store in a bucket of water until divided and made into posies. If you want, you can also choose a few roses or colourful flowers perhaps 3 or 4 just to add colour to the posy. Wrap thick string around the base of flowers which adds to the delightful posies and is very comfortable to hold. This gives a very lovely Vintage theme or there are also other ideas that can be found on YouTube. Divide the amount needed for the number of bridesmaids. And add a ribbon colour of your choice and combined with string look stunning. Such a simple idea that on the day and saves such a lot in what can be a costly item, in the photos looked lovely with bridesmaid dresses black in colour.

DIY Wedding Flowers Saves a Bundle

I made my own bouquets for my recent wedding. Each posy had 35-40 rose buds. Total cost was $205 for materials. For the reception I paid $120.00 for flower centrepieces which I gave away as 'thank you' presents for those who helped by along the way.

Wedding Posies Save a Fortune

When I was married many years ago, instead of 'wedding bouquets' I just asked my florist to make up simple posies with (in season) flowers I selected. They were perfect and a fraction of the traditional wedding bouquet cost.

Don't Say Wedding and Save Big Dollars

Approximate $ Savings: at least $300

We married on Valentines Day this year and could not get a florist to commit to a wedding at a cost no person in their right mind could afford, so my crafty sister and I went to a local florist and ordered 3 dozen gerberas and greenery FOR NANNA'S 90TH, on Valentines Day .. hummm funny that "wedding" means hundreds and "nanna's birthday" only $90. We bought the tape and ribbon and wala beautiful bouquets. The moral is: if you want budget DON'T say wedding or you can say goodbye to your hard earned dollars.

Decorate the church for only $12

We decorated the entire church for my sisters wedding for just $12! We wanted the church to look fabulous for their wedding, but everyone was on a limited budget, and being two long aisles in our huge church, it doubled the number of pews to be decorated. We were determined that they could all be done, but flowers and tulle were very expensive, so instead we bought three big rolls of floristry ribbon from a local florist wholesaler for $5.00 each; in white and gold. Floristry ribbon is 3cm wide, very glossy and ties beautifully - just look what florists can do with it! I made white bows with multiple loops each, with a couple of gold loops as well, and we tied these on every pew with long tails of ribbon hanging almost to the floor. Instead of large bouquets of flowers my friend borrowed three black candelabra and wove green creeper (plucked from her friends garden) through and around the candelabra stem, and also attached the left over bows from the pews as well. When we had all finished, the church looked amazing in the white, gold and green. We had done the entire church for $12! We were all so happy that we managed to achieve my sister's desired look and had saved the many hundreds of dollars that flowers and tulle would have cost. To top it all off, after the wedding, many of our girlfriends commented that the bows looked so great, and could they please have some to decorate the wrapping on birthday presents! We divided them all up to anyone that wanted them, and we all got almost a years worth of free glossy bows to use on gifts! Four years later my other sister married, and we did exactly the same thing with just as fabulous results! NB: Floristry ribbon can also be purchased now from many two dollar shops, which makes it even easier to find - so I still use it to make all the bows and ribbons on my gift wrapping!
