From Cath's Desk - Friday 1st May 2015
Hello Cheapskaters,
Welcome to another Cheapskates Journal.
My heart is just bursting with thanks and joy and just a little pride today. In the last month we have welcomed more new Cheapskaters to the Member's Centre than in any month before. So many new members, all striving to live life the Cheapskates way.
Some are looking for ways to cut their debt, others want to get that grocery bill under control, still others are looking to downsize and simplify without feeling deprived. Many of them have introduced themselves in the forum (if you haven't yet, please do, we can't wait to meet you). And many of them have emailed to share their story, ask their questions and to let me know just how happy they are to be Cheapskaters.
Living the Cheapskates Way is a way of life. For many it involves a complete lifestyle change. It was for us. While our circumstances changed in just a few days, our habits didn't. It took a while for us to develop the new habits that changed our lives from spending to living the Cheapskates way. I had to work at those habits every day. And some days I forgot and had to start again.
I had a goal in front of me. In the beginning it was to just keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. As my habits changed and I became better at Cheapskating, my goals changed. Paying down debt, building an emergency fund, educating our children, saving for our retirement were the major goals. I had smaller goals too: holidays, new furniture, updating our family car were some of them.
Almost 21 years on I still have goals. Later this month Wayne and I will be off on a trip we've planned for years. Saving for this holiday hasn't been easy but I've kept my eye on the goal and we've made it. I'm so excited to make this trip, visiting places I've never been before, meeting new people and making new friends.
Have a wonderful month everyone (and if you're a mum, have a beautiful Mother's Day).
