Hello Cheapskaters,
Didn't June just fly by? It's always a busy month, with the end of the financial year and tax time, but boy it just whizzed past me this year.
July is the perfect month to not spend any unnecessary money, to only buy absolute needs and not buy wants. It's a great month to figure out exactly what the bare basics are that you need to survive.
You'll need food of course, that's a need, but how much of the food you buy is really needed and how much is "treats"? Fruit, vegetables, meat and dairy are necessary; soft drink, pre-prepared meals, convenience foods, even most breakfast cereals, are wants more than needs. And these things can be a huge portion of your food budget.
They are also the part of your food budget that gets out of control the easiest too. If you'd like to see a bare basics shopping list, have a look at our Bare Bones Grocery Challenge. This is an absolute, no money at all, bare basics shopping list. It's for emergencies only, not a food plan I'd recommend indefinitely (but it absolutely is doable for a week).
Hope you have a fantastically frugal month Cheapskating,
