From Cath's Desk - November 2018
Hello Cheapskaters,
I realise this is the middle of November, but for me as soon as Melbourne Cup Day is past, it's Christmas! I love Christmas. I love the shopping and the planning and the wrapping and hiding and card making and writing. I love the baking and the music. I love the decorating. At this time of year I even love Melbourne weather!
Of course I wouldn't love it so much if I weren't prepared. I've shopped and wrapped and labelled all year round. I've searched Pinterest for decorating ideas, and made notes of how to make the decorations we have fit the ideas. I've spent days baking and cooking, all the while remembering doing this with my mother. And I've spent the year since last Christmas saving for these expenses, so we can own our Christmas and relax, knowing that it's just another part of our debt free, cashed up lifestyle.
It's not too late for you to enjoy a debt free Christmas. One where you actually own the presents and the decorations and the clothes and the parties; one where you can relax, knowing you won't be getting bills for your Christmas in January. There are lots of resources on the Own Your Christmas page, and I'm adding to them every week.
Christmas aside, the end of the year is nigh.
I've been doing a stockpile inventory, and restocking slowly.
And I've been going over our finances for the year, tallying where we overspent, where we possibly underspent, which spending categories need to be adjusted up (or down). It's good to end the year on a positive financial note, and that's what I'm aiming for. Take a few minutes, and yes, I know time is at a premium right now, to quickly review your spending plan for 2018. It will give you time to think and plot and plan the changes if any - remember, spending plans are fluid things, so you can relax during December, ready to start 2019 on a positive note.
