Tip Store: Gifts: Gift Vouchers

Save on Gift Giving with Discounted Vouchers

Approximate $ Savings: $20 - $60

Save on gift giving. Sometimes gift cards are on sale in supermarkets. Buy one when it's on sale and then redeem it yourself to buy a gift. I wanted to buy my husband a flying lesson for a big birthday. At $300 though it was too much. I found 'Red Balloon' gift cards were 20% off at Woolworths. So I bought $300 worth of gift cards at 20% off. I redeemed the voucher myself, getting the $300 flight for $240.

Second Chance for Out of Date Gift Cards/Vouchers

Approximate $ Savings: $50
Cleaning my sons room, I found a expired gift voucher for Jeans West (only expired by 12 months!!). In my non Cheapskates day I would have just thrown it away due to it being expired, I thought I would give the company a ring and explained what had happened and they were fantastic and reactivated the voucher for a month giving me time to get to the shopping centre. It was worth that one phone call. Contributed by Christine, Ferntree Gully, 8th May 2009
