Cheeseburger Impossible Pie

Ingredients:
500g mince
1 large onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
3 tbsp tomato sauce
1-1/2 cups milk
3/4 cup SR flour
3 eggs
pinch salt
1/4 tsp pepper
2 tomatoes, sliced
1 cup grated cheese

Method:
Pre-heat oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Grease a pie dish. Cook mince, garlic, tomato sauce and onion together until mince is browned. Drain. Spread in the bottom of the pie dish. Beat milk, flour, eggs, salt and pepper until smooth. Pour into pie dish. Bake 25 minutes. Top with sliced tomatoes, and sprinkle the top with the grated cheese. Bake a further 10 - 12 minutes until a knife inserted in the centre comes out clean and the cheese is golden brown. Let cool in the dish for five minutes before slicing to serve.

Stretch Your Milk

If you use a lot of milk, it can become expensive. I accidently picked up some full cream milk instead of skim and didn't want to trek back to the shop. I decided to dilute the milk with 50% water. This worked out brilliantly. The taste was the same as skim milk and as full cream and skim are the same price, I have halved the cost of the milk. I am aware that I am also halving any added vitamins etc. which are added to the milk but as I am not relying on the milk as my only vitamin/mineral source I am not concerned. I now decant a 2 or 3 litre of full cream milk into 1/2 litre containers and freeze them. When I am running low on skim milk, I defrost a 1/2 litre, top it up with cold water, shake and there is my half price milk.

Take Out the Batteries

For battery operated gadgets that don't get used all the time - like label makers, can openers, fuzz removers and the like, remove the batteries each time you are finished using the gadget. I keep the batteries nearby to the gadget, but I have found it extends the battery life if they are disconnected from the gadget when not in use.

Kmart Pensioner Discount Program

A friend of mine discovered that Kmart offers a 5 % discount to pensioners, but there is a catch. It only applies to Commonwealth Govt Pensioner Concession Card holders or Commonwealth Govt Department of Veterans Affairs Health Cards. State or territory-issued Seniors Card does not qualify. The discount is available on the first Wednesday of every month. A Kmart representative said holders of the cards just need to present their card in-store for the discount to take effect. It is not available online. If you’re worried about whether or not your local Kmart will honour the discount, the retailer has confirmed that the discount is available at all Kmart stores nationwide.

Saving Power on Outdoor Lighting

I was cleaning out our Christmas lights when I came across some clear solar lights we use at Christmas time. I decided to set them up under our pergola. They receive enough light during the day and automatically come on when it starts to get dark. No more having to switch outside lights on so cutting down on electricity costs. They don’t cost very much and were purchased at Bunnings.
