Beat The Grubby Hand Towel Blues

Do you find your hand towels change colour with the quick wash wipe of the comer and goers, then need a long soak to come back to some level of their normal colour? Relax, help is on the way. All you need to do is have a folded damp face cloth on the edge of the basin for an initial wipe.  This gets off any dirt and soap residue first and then dry as usual. The face cloth being damp gives up the collected dirt and suds easily and leaves the clean hand towel to just dry up any moisture left behind. A quick now and again rinse of the face cloth and all is good. It works well in our house with gardeners and handy people who get really dirty. The best is no more need to soak. One less job. Give it a try.

How to Control Hobby/Craft Spending

I am a self-confessed craft-addict (quilting, cross stitch, embroidery, crochet, knitting) who spends way too much on craft supplies and has accrued a substantial collection of “craft stuff”. My 2022 goal is to use what I have. Part of my collection problem is to browse craft websites and ebay when I am bored, emotional, tired etc. but I stumbled upon a diversion strategy. As soon as I feel the urge to splurge, I browse Pinterest instead. It diverts my attention, and the inspiration and free projects remind me that I have enough already and do not need more. By the time I finish, I no longer have the urge to buy anything. This has saved me hundreds this year, and I have not bought anything I didn’t actually need!

Stuff Your Cushions Cheaply

I bought some lovely cushion covers for my girl's beds and needed to buy the inserts to fill them. At Spotlight the size I needed were $8 each. 8 cushions would cost me $64. The inserts were so poorly filled, it would require two to make each cushion plump at a cost of $128. I went to the pillow section and bought 2 bags of pillows with 2 in each bag for a cost of $40. Each pillow can be cut in half and the ends sewn closed to make 8 plump cushion inserts. It actually only cost me $30 as I had received a Spotlight discount promotion in the mail this week. So instead of $8 for each cushion, it cost only $3.75!

Shop Around Online for Newbie Bonuses

When shopping for products online, try different websites each time! Most sites have 10-20% or $10-20 discount bonuses, and sometimes free shipping as well for new members who sign up to their website or mailing list (which you can always unsubscribe to later). So if you regularly buy a favourite product that is available on different websites, by purchasing from a new website each time, you'll save heaps for months or even years!
