Shopping Around for Travel Insurance
I recently had the experience of getting quotes for travel insurance. The first quote was $7,000, then I had quotes for between $3,500 - $5,000. I received an email from Qantas saying that they were offering travel insurance. Their quote for myself and the son who is special needs was $2,600. This is a massive difference. Like everything it pays to shop around , especially for those big items.

MOO Yoghurt Mix-ins
I love the branded yoghurt with mix-ins and find them handy when I’m after an indulgent snack, but even at half price they are expensive! I make my own mix-in mixes by saving the crumbs in the bottom of the biscuit jar, the flakes of nuts that are left in the mixed nuts packet after we’ve eaten all the nuts, the leftover cereal crumbs in the bottom of the box after we’ve eaten the cereal, etc. I store them in the little sauce takeaway containers with attached lids that we get when we occasionally order Chinese for dinner. They don’t take up much space in the pantry and stack easily. Each week I buy a different flavour of yoghurt and add whatever I feel like at the time.

Shaving for Pennies on the Dollar
My husband has gone back to using the old fashioned safety razor and the blade costs him only pennies per week. He also uses an old fashioned brush to put the soap on, and cakes of soap. Side bonus is he no longer has a problem with acne, ingrown hairs and razor burn.

MOO a Pool Noodle Pet Cone
We just had our doggo desexed. It was by chance that we chose July, then found it was National Desexing Month. We looked at National Desexing Network (https://ndn.org.au/) and it gave a list of vets that participate in our area. We were quoted $730 from our vet who wasn’t listed, but when I called another local vet that was, it was $290. When we bought doggo home she didn’t like the cone she had to wear. She couldn’t get to her food or water with it on and she refused to move and stood in one spot for hours. I googled and found a few alternatives sold at pet stores but they were $70. Another google and we were able to use a pool noodle that we already had (so free). We cut 3 lengths and used her collar to thread it on. It has been great. She can’t get at her stitches but is happy to wear it, unlike the cone. One happy doggo for a fraction of the cost!
