Basil Pesto

Ingredients:
3 tbsp toasted Pine Nuts
2 cups basil leaves
2 cloves garlic
3-4 tbsp nutritional yeast flakes
2-3 tbsp olive oil
2tbsp lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
Pinch of salt

Method:
Step 1. Lightly toast pine nuts

Step 2. Place all ingredients in a food processor and mix until blended. You can slowly pour in the olive oil if you wish, but I always put the ingredients in all together and blitz.

Step 3. If it is looking a little too green and not creamy, slowly add up to 3 tbsp of water and blitz for a second time.

Step 4. Taste test (just a small amount) and pour into jars/ containers.

Can be kept in the fridge for up to one week.

Tip: taste your pesto to ensure it is the right balance between garlic and lemon.

Clothing for Teens

​We had a saying in our house, still use it for grandkids, "we supply the need - you buy the greed". What it meant was we would provide all essential items of clothing and toiletries, i.e. school uniforms, out of school clothing and underwear, but if they wanted designer clothes we would look at the price of a similar item say, jeans, (KMart) $20, give them that money and if they wanted $80 jeans they had to use their pocket money or birthday money to pay the rest. Surprisingly they often decided that chain-store items were acceptable.

Blanch and Freeze Your Own Garden Produce For Meal Ingredients For Months Ahead

​We live on a property and mass plant our vegetables each season for self reliance. As such we get a lot of vegetables at once.

To provide meals for months ahead we blanch and freeze our vegetables and put them in meal sized portions in the freezer. We mark the date of packaging on the packet as well as the expiry date which is 12 months from packaging them.

This way we can have our lovely fresh vegetables for months to come and even when they are out of season too at really cheap prices compared to buying them in the stores.

When we want to cook a meal we simply either pick vegetables fresh from the gardens or take out packets of fresh frozen garden vegetables out of the freezer.

You can also do this same thing with purchasing cheap seasonal produce and blanch and freeze them too to prepare more meal ingredients in the freezer too.

​A Different But FrualFace Mask Nose Locator

​Solder(ing) wire is very soft and pliable. I found it out in man-of-the house area. I cut a 10cm piece and hand stitched inside the top of the mask, between the layers of face mask before stitching to close all seams. To wear it, pop on mask and pinch wire over nose. Done! And it holds the mask in place and up well.

Not Elastic for Face Masks

​Can't buy normal elastic for love not money. Searching around a large store that sells fabric etc. and I came across the handmade jewellery supplies.  I bought, without being able to see how much give was in this item, a very thin, what had to stretch for bracelets I was thinking, tiny roll of stretch thread. It works well. You need 3 lengths to hold the knot and need to double knot when tying off, but compared to bias and the like it is very comfortable and the 3 threads with double knots held within the mask. So far 10/10.

​Ice Cream Without Bending Your Spoon

​Keeping your ice cream in it's container in a zip lock bag in the freezer makes it so easy to serve. Just the right consistency. No bent utensils.

Further Savings on Printer Ink

​I buy printer cartridges, and toner packs from Ink Station. However, before clicking "Buy", I always Google discount codes, and can usually find a code for about 30% off the price. 
This also works for many other internet sites. Before you pay, Google "discount codes" for the retailer. You might just save even more!

​No More Mouldy Bread

​My husband makes his own bread, but of late it seems to be going mouldy in the bread bin before it is finished. Then I bought a box of zip top bags, not to be used for anything else, (for easy identification) and sliced the fresh bread (partly frozen for ease of cutting) and packed it in the bags, two slices at a time. Frozen this way, it is easy to take out a bag to thaw and use almost immediately. Result: No more mouldy bread, no more wasted slices - and we do not need a bread bin any longer!

Draft Printing Most of the Time

​I have been setting my black and white printing to DRAFT quality for many of my small print jobs that don't require good quality. It saves heaps, makes a quicker print, and is good quality for home receipts, recipes, etc.

​DIY ORANGE CLEANER

After juicing oranges from our trees we are always left with piles of orange rinds. Place all orange rinds in a large glass jar. Cover the rinds with white vinegar, replace the lid and allow to steep for 2 weeks. After the two weeks, decant the liquid into a spray bottle and fill the rest of the bottle with water or more white vinegar. Instant DIY citrus cleanser that is tough on grease and costs about 50c for a large 1 litre spray bottle.
