MOO Glue Gone

Picture
It is so frustrating to want to recyle a jar or plastic container, only to find the labels don't come off!
The paper lifs off, but the adhesive is left behind and it is sticky and hard to remove.
You can try to scrape it off, but you run the risk of damaging the glass.

You can try to melt it off with hot water, but this just makes the glue even stickier and spreads it everywhere.
You can try rubbing it off with a plastic or bamboo scouring pad, but this just gunks up the scourer, making it useless for other jobs.

Sometimes you might have success with peanut butter. It sounds odd, I know, but for some adhesives the oil in the peanut butter reacts with the adhesive and after a bit of rubbing, it will come off.

Or you could try this MOO version of Goo Gone (the US name) or Goof Off (the Australian version) because it's quick, easy, really works and you probably have everything you need in your pantry already. And that makes it convenient and cheap!

You will need:
1/4 cup bicarbonate soda
2 tbsp vegetable oil

Mix the oil and bicarb together to form a paste.

To use, massage the paste into the label you want to remove (or gum or glue or decal, it will remove them all). Just use your fingers to rub in the paste, making sure it is absorbed by the label.

Let it sit for 10 minutes or so, then use a paper towel (or an unpaper towel) to rub the sticky stuff off.

Wash the item in hot, soapy water and dry.
