​MOO Pastry Mats

If you have ever had to guess the size when rolling pastry, guess no more.  You could spend $20 to buy a pastry mat with the sizes marked on it. It would make rolling pastry to size simple, and I can tell you they are very handy for rolling pastry and dough to size. 

Or you can take a few minutes, a Sharpie and your cake tins, pie dishes and baking sheets and MOO them. 

Go to a $2 Shop and pick up a pack of clear, flexible chopping mats. They come in a pack of two for - you guessed it - $2. Great value as chopping mats, I have one just for onions and garlic and another one just for chopping chicken. Aldi will sometimes have them in colours, for around $10. Clear or coloured, doesn't matter and is up to you.

These chopping mats are perfect for rolling pastry. They are non-stick and being flexible you can simply roll up the edges when you have finished rolling your pastry and tip the scraps straight into the bin.

The other advantage to these mats is they are transparent, you can see through them.

I have made two pastry mats, one for circles and one for rectangles and squares, by simply tracing around my pie dishes and pizza trays and baking sheets and marking the size of each one.  

Now when I'm rolling pastry I'm not guessing the size and making mistakes. 

Simple and frugal - two pastry mats for $1 each!
