Whipped Body Butter
Just in time for Mother's Day, and coming into winter, this simple and safe whipped body butter is so good you could eat it - it wouldn't taste so good, but that's how safe it is.
Whip up a batch for a gift, or to protect and moisturise your hands, knees, elbows, ankles, heels and anywhere else.
I've been a long-time fan of Body Shop products (the Clementine body butter is my favourite, but it has been discontinued!) but, even buying them on sale, they get pricey.
This is a simple recipe that costs a fraction of the $25 it costs for a 200ml tub and it's just as good.
Basic Body Butter
Ingredients:
1/2 cup shea butter
1/4 cup sweet almond oil
1/4 cup coconut oil
10 - 20 drops of your favourite essential oils
Step 1. Combine all ingredients, except the essential oils, in a small pot or double boiler. Gently melt and stir over medium-low heat until the mixture is liquid.
Step 2. Remove from the heat and allow the mixture to thicken and partially set.
Step 3. Once the mixture is partially set, add the essential oils of your choice, and whip with a hand mixer or stand mixer until the body butter is fluffy and stiff peaks have formed. It will look like stiffly beaten meringue.
Step 4. Spoon into a clean jar. Apply as needed to hands, elbows, knees, heels and anywhere else dry skin is a problem.
Here’s a variation that makes a lovely gift.
White Chocolate Body Butter Recipe:
1/4 cup shea butter
1/4 cup cocoa butter
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup sweet almond oil
10-20 drops of essential oil
Where to buy:
Shea butter, sweet almond oil, Cocoa butter - Aussie Soap Supplies https://www.aussiesoapsupplies.com.au
Coconut oil - I buy my coconut oil from Aldi. It's cheaper, and more convenient for me. Most supermarkets (in the health food aisle) and all health food shops have coconut oil.
Essential oils - Always buy pure essential oils. They will cost more, but they are pure and safe. Health food shops, some pharmacies, Aussie Soap Supplies or a distributor like DoTerra will have good quality, pure essential oils suitable for use in body butters.
