Welcome to all our new members. We have quite a few this week, I hope you're all enjoying your Cheapskates Club membership. When you get a moment please visit the forum and introduce yourself, we can't wait to meet you.
I had some great news yesterday afternoon, we've been able to upgrade to a bigger room for the Sustainable Cheapskating workshop on Sunday. And that means there's more room, and more chairs. I hope you're able to come along, Gavin Webber (www.greeningofgavin.com) is our guest speaker, and of course you'll get to listen to me talk about my favourite topic too - Cheapskating. Brain Food
When I was at school we were asked to bring 'brain food' as well. My Mum would pop popcorn the night before and separate into equal containers. She used to take it to work as well. If you pop it on the stove in an old pot with tinfoil you need less than a tablespoon of oil and there's no need to add any after for flavour. (Just keep shaking the pot while it cooks!) Almonds always taste so much nicer roasted but instead of oven roasting, stick one serving (12-15 nuts) between two pieces of paper towel or napkin in the microwave for 15-25 seconds depending on your microwave. Yum!

Alternative to Ant-rid
Found ants in the kitchen and couldn't find the ant-rid. The next small bottle I came across was oil of cloves and I decided to give that a go. Using a tissue I wiped it across the ant-track in several place. They didn't like it at all. They wouldn't walk on it. One hour later there were only the stragglers left. The next morning their were none to be seen. 24 hours later, the kitchen is still ant free!

Good Enough for Babys Bottom, Good Enough for Your Face
My mum found this out from a lovely shop assistant at Chemist Warehouse. My mum was interested in buying cleansing wipes for her face. The young girl in the shop told her that she uses baby wipes instead as they are much cheaper. My mum compared the price and yes, the baby wipes are about half the price. Also, she compared the ingredients in both. The ones listed on the facial wipes packet were a whole lot of names she hadn't heard of, whereas, on the baby wipes, there were fewer ingredients and simple ones - including aloe vera and vitamin E oil.

3. Cheapskates Winning tip
This week's winning tip is from Katie Richer. Katie has won a one year Platinum Cheapskates Club membership for submitting her winning tip.
Always Check the Market Value of Your Car!
Approximate $ Savings: $2,200
I was in the unfortunate position of having to replace my car after it was written off in a car accident. My particular policy states that in such cases I get either the agreed or market value, whichever is greater. The agreed value was $5,500, but my insurer offered me $6,700. Now, I'd kept my car in very good condition, and it had very low mileage. So I asked the towing company to give me the odometer reading, and conducted some research of my own. My particular car was typically going for $8,000-$9,000! I came back to my insurer with this information, which they checked out, and they made me a new offer of $8,900...much better. I ended up not being out of pocket, just because I spent a little time checking the figures.
Congratulations Katie, I hope you enjoy your Cheapskates Club membership.

Sustainable Cheapskating
Good news! We've been able to move up to a bigger room and that means there are more chairs!
I know that there were quite a few people wanting to attend who saw the "sold out" when they tried to book.
As we now have plenty of chairs that "sold out" is gone and bookings have re-opened for the Sustainable Cheapskating workshop to be held this Sunday, 16th March.
You can join Cath and guest speaker Gavin Webber (Green Lifestyle Awards - Local Green Hero) at this exciting, fun, frugal and entertaining workshop. Gavin will be talking about his journey over the last 7 years, and how he transformed his suburban home into an energy efficient, money saving, food providing, and thriving oasis in the ‘burbs. Cath will be sharing how I manage to grow most of the veggies we eat and some of the fruit, and how we keep the power bills low, recycle and harvest water, shop locally and still get great deals and all the other day-to-day things that encompass life in 2014 - all without harming our world.

A MOO Epsom Salt Facial Scrub
Some people consider Epsom salt to be a miracle substance. It can be used in a variety of ways from cleaning to soothing sore muscles to relieving dry, itchy skin. It can also leave your skin exfoliated and moisturized. If you’d like to try an Epsom salt facial scrub but don’t want to pay for them, you can MOO it. Here’s how:
Step 1. In a medium sized bowl, pour 1/2 cup of Epsom salt.
Step 2. To the salt, add 1/4 cup of vegetable oil. You can use grape seed, olive, sunflower, almond, olive and canola oils. Use the vegetable oil you have in the pantry.
Step 3. Thoroughly mix the salt and oil(s).
Step 4. Pour the mixture into a plastic jar with lid you can tightly close. The salt scrub should last about 3-4 months as long as it is tightly closed after each use.
To use the Epsom salt facial scrub, wet your face with warm water and scoop out a tablespoon of the scrub. Gently massage the scrub into your face, avoiding the eye area, in circular motions. Rinse with cool water and then pat your face dry.
Don't want to be bothered MOOing? You can also add half-teaspoon of Epsom salt to bought facial cleanser. Massage it into the skin and rinse with cool water. Pat the skin dry.
Finally, instead of concentrating solely on your face, why not use Epsom salt to exfoliate your whole body? Simply take a handful of Epsom salt and massage it into your wet skin. You can get the same type of spa treatment you’d pay good money for without having to spend money at all.

Meatless Meals
Last week Rachel emailed asking for meal plans for vegetarians, so this week we are eating vegetarian meals, no meat, chicken or fish. We don't mind meatless meals, and I often use them to stretch the grocery budget when money is tight.
Vegetarian dishes don't have to be bland and boring and bean or tofu based. They can be as interesting and tasty as you choose to make them. All the recipes for the dishes on my meal plan this week are in the Vegetarian section of the Recipe File and they're all good - I've used them all many times.
If you're looking to save a little grocery money or just want to jazz up your meal plans, try one or two or all of these dishes, they really are delicious.
This week we will be eating:
Friday: Haystacks
Saturday: Mushroom Cheese Risotto
Sunday: Wellington Loaf, baked vegetables, steamed greens, gravy
Monday: Italian Vegetarian Meatballs over spaghetti, salad
Tuesday: Mock Fish No. 2, MOO wedges, green salad
Wednesday: Cream Cheese Patties, salad
Thursday: Baked Bean Curry over steamed rice, MOO garlic naan
In the fruit bowl: apples, oranges and bananas
In the cake tin: Choc chip muffins, boiled fruit cake, Crisp Coconut biscuits
There are over 1,300 other great money saving meal ideas in the Recipe File
8. The $300 a Month Food Challenge with Wendy
Hello everyone. I hope you are enjoying the Cheapskates MOO month.
A benefit to MOOing is that it reduces the food bill. Since joining Cheapskates 3 and 1/2 years ago I've reduced our food bill from well over $400 a month to under $250 a month. During this time, my girls have grown and so have their appetites. I've also been able to maintain well stocked freezers, pantry and fridge and my stockpile has grown enormously.
Probably the biggest reduction to my food bill has been the snacks. I no longer buy ready made snacks for home and lunchboxes. I make my own muesli bar slice, cakes, muffins, biscuits, pita chips and dips etc. Homemade tastes so much better than store bought, has less packaging and we know exactly what we are eating. No artifical preservatives, colourings, flavourings and additives. You also get better value for money.
A great way to start MOOing snacks for your family is to pick something you'd like to make yourself. There are lots of great baking recipes in the Recipe File on the Cheapskates website. Find one you like the sound of and bake/make it. Then the next time you make it include any adjustments to suit your tastes. For example - less sugar or different dried fruit. Write down these adjustments and bake it again until you have perfected the recipe. Then you can move onto a new recipe and build up your repertoire.
Serving MOO biscuits, cakes and other snacks to family and friends gives you a sense of joy and achievement. I've found that guests are more apprecitive of homemade. I've never heard anyone raving about a packet of biscuits being served up.
What is your favourite snack to serve up to visitors?
Have a great week and BE ENCOURAGED!!!!!

14. Frequently Asked Questions
How do I change my email address?
This one is easy. Members can update their email address or any other details by clicking on "Edit Profile" directly under their membership number after they have logged in to the Member's Centre. Subscribers to our free newsletter can use the Change Your Address form (under Customer Service in the menu) and fill it out. Once you've filled it in click the send button and we'll do the rest. Please remember to include your old email address so we can find it in the list as well as the new one.
How do I know when my membership should be renewed?
When you login to the Member's Centre you will be told how many days of membership you have left once you have 30 days left. Just click on the link to renew and your membership will just continue on, uninterrupted.
What will you do with my email address?
We never rent, trade or sell our email list to anyone for any reason whatsoever. You'll never get an unsolicited email from a stranger as a result of joining this list.
