Tickled Organizing
A tickler is a file, often used by journalists, to remind them of an idea months down the track. You can use a tickler to remind you of upcoming bills, events, warranty services - anything you like.
Calendars and organizers are great. Electronic organizers work well too for one person, but they don't work well for everyone in the family, nor do they hold clippings, permission slips, bills, invoices, receipts and anything else that accumulates in a busy household.
For a busy family, a planner that is accessible and easy to use is needed, and that's where the tickler comes into its own.
Take an expanding file (minimum 16 pocket).
Label the first four pockets Week 1, Week 2, Week 3 and Week 4.
Label the next twelve pockets January through to December.
To use your tickler place articles about upcoming events, school notices, concerts, holidays, sports schedules and so on in the appropriate month. At the start of a new month take the clippings from that month, sort them into weeks and drop them into their slots at the front of your tickler. At the end of each week, empty the pocket. Shred or recycle the rubbish and file anything that needs to be kept in your permanent file.
You won't miss an important event again.

Check Lists are Valuable
As I have family in another state I thought some day I might be needed and have to leave to get to them in a hurry. If this happened I know my mind would be in a muddle so I have made an emergency packing check list, things I would not think of such as prescriptions and pills, phone and charger, legal papers such as Power of Attorney, in case they are needed, passport for identification as I do not have a licence, an address book, torch, notebook and pen, cheque book, bank book, current bills, bill barcodes, camera and charger, glasses etc. I also have made out two packing lists, one summer and one winter so I have check lists when packing for holidays. Saves so much time and effort.

Organiser Printouts
It's that time of year when we are looking to update our calendars, organisers etc. It can be quite costly, unless you go to www.diyplanner.com This is a great site which lets you print out free pages to organise yourself. It also includes pages for you filofax type organisers to print out, rather than having to go and buy them.

Picture Frame Noticeboard
Approximate $ Savings: $10 a year
Get an old large picture frame with glass in it and place white paper or card behind the glass. Use a white board marker to write notes on the glass for family instead of wasting paper and the messages wont get lost. Attach to the wall using a hook and or double sided Velcro tape for a firm writing surface and no accidents. You can even draw on the white paper making sections for each family member, draw up a calendar or regular weekly tasks that just need ticks when they are done. You could even buy the frame at a garage sale to save more money if you don't have one already. Just wipe with a cloth or tissue to clean off and start again.

Blackboard Message Centre
I would like to share with you a handy hint I have been using for years Recycle an old blackboard by using it next to the phone attach to your wall to write messages on use a decorated small tin can for the chalk saves heaps on paper and the kids don't forget to write down your messages. This idea was the best one for us with six kids we were all missing messages even our little one can write down nearly :) legible messages.
