Saving on Barista Made Coffee and Helping the Environment
On my commute to the city each weekday morning, I love stopping at my local cafe for a morning latte. It's an expensive treat that gets me through the working week that I budget for, and gets me out of bed in the morning - I live in Melbourne and just can't do instant coffee! Recently I bought a KeepCup - a reuseable, BPA-free plastic coffee cup for $12 (available online or at homewares stores) as I started to feel guilty about how much disposable cups I was using and sending to landfill. My local cafe offers customers a 20 cent discount if they BYO cup for each coffee. I've calculated that if I bring my KeepCup each working day throughout the year and only pay $3.30 for my morning latte instead of $3.50, over the course of the working year I'll save $48! It's a small saving that still allows me the luxury of barista made coffee, that has the added bonus of being much better for the environment.
