Singles Can Pay Down Debt - My Third Saving Story
Thanks for your last newsletter; I found it very interesting and inspiring. When I hopped onto your website again recently I found you had put my second email onto the Saving Stories section, thank you, I appreciate that; so I am emailing my third one onto you.
Further to the last story, I am now debt free again, having paid off the car repairs and vet bill for my cat, and have started saving again. I do this as quickly as I can by paying as much money each week off the credit card, this also keeps the interest reduced, rather than paying monthly. I hope this gives inspiration to those singles and families who are on one income, as it can be restrictive at times.
To get rid of debt more quickly, unfortunately it does take some sacrifice - forget that coffee when you do the weekly shopping, or even the cheap brekkie or lunch on the w/e. I'm sure everyone finds it hard sometimes, but if you are still getting rid of debt, just remember to stay focused, and look at the end result.
Then after we have saved our weekly amount into that special account, then we can go and do the coffee and treat ourselves to w/e treats, which we so richly deserve after working all week.
Another idea for those who have a credit card with altitude points or similar - use your card for your purchase, but have the money in the bank to transfer the money. You have no debt, but your points accrue, so you can redeem them for your store vouchers, once again saving some money for the special little things you need. The little bit extra which is paid in the credit card fee annually, isn't that much more.
I also found Mindy's story inspiring - congratulations. I was a single mother since my daughter was 4, and it's hard, so good on you!
Take care everyone, and happy saving!
Best wishes
