Dilute and Save on Sensitive Skin Products
Approximate $ Savings: Estimated savings $156 a year
We are a family of 5 who all have quite sensitive skin so I by 1 litre pump packs of QV Wash (non soap wash) which I try to buy on special - can get it cheapest price for $16 - some places it retails for $25. I always dilute it 50/50. You can give it a shake to mix it. I find it just as effective when diluted. We all use it on our faces and I use it as a hand wash too as I get dermatitis. I also do the same for the body wash I buy, $10 for 1 litre - use it with a shower puff for lots of suds. My daughters and I occasionally use facial wipes when we are tired at night and I always cut then in half and find it is still large enough to use. Doing this a 1 litre bottle of QV wash and shower gel lasts my family about 2 months.

Brand Name Sensitive Skin Care for a Fraction of the Price
Approximate $ Savings: $34
I like to use QV products for my sensitive skin but at $25/500ml for the face cleanser it was a bit out of my budget. I found out that QV also make a body wash that is suitable to be used on the face as well that costs $29.95/1L. The Good Price Pharmacy Warehouse (www.goodpricepharmacy.com.au) sell it for $20.95/1L which they sell on sale every couple of months for $16/1L. $25/500ml x 2= $50/1L - $16/1L = $34 Saving. Because the 1L can last up to a year it is possible to only purchase this product on sale. - Contributed by Katherine, North Nowra, 14th August 2008 Moisturising Sorbolene Soap and Liquid Soap Sorbolene also make moisturising soap in cakes and liquid form. It is available at Coles and much cheaper than Dove. The liquid soap has enormous refill bottles available, which saves you even more. My sister suffers dry skin and this has been perfect for it.

QV Wash for Dry, Sensitive Skin
I have very dry, very sensitive skin and find products advertised as suitable often cause irritation. I am currently using QV Wash - Refresh Dry Skin by Ego. It is available in a 500ml pump pack and I have found it to be quite economical as well as doing the job. The rest of the family who do not suffer to the same extent use other products. As I still need to be conscious of the price and because I prefer more natural products, I usually choose 'Simple' soap for them.

Pure Laundry Soap and Almond Oil Are Best
I have very sensitive skin and found that the best (and cheapest) soap to use is good old laundry soap found in the washing detergents isle at the super market. It isn't rough on your skin and doesn't have the additives that the bath soaps have. After the shower, whilst wet, I rub about a teaspoon of olive or almond oil over my entire body. If you do this while wet it goes a long way and doesn't feel at all greasy afterwards. This is a very cost effective and gentle way of keeping dry skin smooth and moist. You won't believe the difference! – Contributed by Susan, Montrose, 22nd May 2007 Discuss this tip Sorbolene Wash
We use Redwin Sorbolene Wash (not cream). I buy it from www.pharmacydirect.com.au for 9.95 a litre. It's lovely and has a fresh clean smell not perfumed. I even use it on the dog that has sensitive skin! (The vet said it was a great idea and would suggest it to other pet owners).

Olive Oil as a Moisturiser for Dry Skin
A good remedy for dry skin is to rub on a little olive oil right after you step out of the shower and then just pat yourself dry. (Doing this right after the shower helps lock moisture in.) You can get inexpensive olive oil at your local dollar store or bulk stores like Costco. Many skincare products contain olive oil as well. And to exfoliate the lip area during the winter just mix a tad of olive oil & sugar to make a little paste and rub gently over and around the lip area. Good luck!

Olive Oil for Dry Skin
Try applying some olive oil to your skin before going into the shower. I find that this really works.

Make Your Own Moisturising Soap
I also have dry skin and have found a recipe that is simple and works well. Firstly melt 100g coconut oil and 100g beeswax on a low heat. When it's melted add 100 g sweet almond oil and stir well. Take it off the heat and leave it to cool for a while, but make sure it's still a liquid texture when you mix in 1tsp lavender oil. All of these products can be found at either the supermarket or health food stores.

Soap Free QV Wash
I also used to use Dove soap until my daughter started getting dermatitis. I then started her on QV wash. Since using this the dermatitis has improved dramatically. The whole family now uses it as it is soap free but has a lovely moisturiser in it. Your skin feels lovely and smooth afterwards. I buy it in the 1 litre tubs (on special you can pick it up for around $16). 1 tub for 2 adults would last around 3 months if not longer (this would equate to around $1.30 a week). You only need 3 or 4 pumps to do your entire body. The other bonus is that as it doesn't have soap in it, so your soap/scum build up in the shower is less (still get some from shampoo). You can also get one called Keri wash but this one has a horrible smell to it.

Cut Back Family Use and Save on Special Soaps
Michelle stated that she had dry skin but all the family was using the Dove soap. Sometimes we can't see the forest for the trees. Step 1 would be to organize her toiletries. I work in the beauty industry and I do see people making costly mistakes regularly. She needs to use something like a flannel that can be used and washed for hygiene purposes. Pure soap by Cussons is great and should be for her use only. Follow the shower with a light moisturiser to care for her skin. The sorbolene would be ideal for this and something with vitamin e helps to heal and protect the skin. Step 2 her family can use a generic soap that suits them and suds away. Her bar should last a month or she is using too much. A little soap, water and a flannel are all you need to keep clean.

Olive Oil Cream Replaces Soap
I use a tub of 10% olive oil in aqueous cream in place of soap. It was prescribed for me to control eczema and I have been using it now for 20 years. It is available over the counter and costs $20.00 for a big tub (500gms). I use it in the shower to wash with and as a body lotion and it lasts months - you only need a very little. The only time I use soap is for very dirty hands. I'm told this cream can be used as a shampoo as well but have never tried it. I get compliments all the time on my skin - I use it as a face cleanser too, so that saves again on having extra products.
