September is Preparedness Month

Picture
We don't know what the future holds, but regardless, we should be prepared, or as prepared as we possibly can be.

"I'm over-prepared" said no one ever, when a disaster hit!

This month, throughout the month, I'll be focusing on being prepared. One of my sayings is "don't be afraid, be prepared".

I say this to myself, and just about anyone else who listens, over and over and over. Being prepared just makes sense.

It is reassuring to know that if you suddenly find yourself unemployed, you have an emergency fund to fall back on. You prepared by saving, little by little, to have that cash back-up.

It's reassuring to know that as we come into summer, if you're in a bushfire zone, you have your bushfire plan in place; you have a couple of bug-out bags packed and ready to go; the gutters have been cleaned of leaves and debris; you have the hoses on the taps; you know where the evacuation centres are. You prepared for a bushfire, and God willing you'll be fire-free this summer, but if you do need to evacuate, you know you can quickly and safely.

It's reassuring to know that if you suddenly can't get to the shops, you have enough in your pantry to last until you can. You prepared by building it up, little by little, week by week.

So this month, prepare. Do what you can to get ahead with your pantries so that in the event of an emergency, you'll be the cool, calm, collected on, organised and ready to do what is necessary.

Check back often to see for Preparedness Month updates.
