Sugar Scrub Recipes Just in Time for Christmas

Picture
Body scrubs are amazing. They leave your winter-roughened skin smooth and silky, ready for summer. But boy are then expensive! The Body Shop sells a coconut exfoliating scrub for $29 a 250ml jar - way out of my budget. I've been making scrubs for years, and saving a fortune at the same time.

These simple sugar scrubs are a lovely way to pamper your skin, and they make beautiful, useful, and inexpensive gifts too. And at $3.35 per jar (price varies depending on the coconut oil you use) they are very budget, as well as skin, friendly.

I save small, wide mouthed jars (think salsa, mustard etc.) throughout the year to put scrubs in. Every time I'm in an op shop, I'm looking for jars, because we don't buy salsa, and rarely pay more than 20c for a jar. If you don't have a lot of jars to recycle, visit your local op shop - you won't be short of choice.

10 drops lavender essential oil

Where to buy:

Coconut oil
Woolworths sell coconut oil with prices starting from $1.40/100g (Pure Refined Coconut Oil, 500g).
Coles sell coconut oil with prices starting from $1.38/100ml (Maharajahs Choice Coconut Oil).
Health food stores will sell coconut oil, but expect prices starting from $3.00/100ml.

Essential oils
Essential oils are available from pharmacies, online, some department stores. You'll find them in $2 type shops but the quality won't be the same. It is worth paying the extra for pure essential oils from reputable brands. They'll give you a longer lasting scent and will be safer to use on skin.
