The Just in Case Picnic Basket

This is a picnic basket we take in the car with us whenever we go four wheel driving of a weekend (or even just for a drive in the car). Sometimes we plan on being out for the whole day, and in that case we take our lunch and snacks. But sometimes we're just going for an hour or so, but we always take this picnic basket, just in case we get stuck or lost or breakdown or something else happens to delay us getting home.
It comes in handy for morning or afternoon tea too, and still has enough supplies leftover to keep us going for a day or so.
In the basket there are:
Before we leave home I add:
And, depending on where we are going and how long we are going to be out, sandwiches or crackers and cheese or a picnic meal
It's not a big basket, but it holds enough to keep us hydrated and fed for a day or so in an emergency.
The torch is great in the dark and for seeing under the bonnet or even underneath the car if required.
The radio is great for keeping in touch with what is happening in the world and saves running the car battery down to listen to the news.
I look for baskets in op shops and pick them up for $4 - $5 each, then add the permanent things and give them as gifts. They come up like new with a wash in soapy water.
I've given then to 18 year olds when they've bought their first car, and for Christmas and birthday presents. I've even given a couple to friends when they've bought their first four wheel drives and started venturing out in the bush.
