Tip Store: Cleaning: Vinegar

Cleaning with Vinegar

Approximate $ Savings: Australia $5.00

I use white vinegar for nearly everything. When anything is stuck on my pans I use enough white vinegar to cover the bottom while they are still warm and leave until after the meal, they are easy to clean. If you have burnt anything in the pan again cover with white vinegar and leave overnight. I have even left it for a few days when it was really, really bad and it is no hassle to clean. Even after frying eggs use vinegar no scrubbing needed. Mix half a cup white vinegar and a few drops of dish washing liquid in a spray bottle and fill with tap water. This cleaning spray does stove tops, bench tops and grease marks on clothing.

Vinegar!

The humble bottle of vinegar has an endless list of household purposes. The acetic acid in vinegar dissolves the dirt and oil from your skin. For a mere $1.20 for 2 litres we have cut down on all household cleaning products and saved $$$. We have recycled our previous window cleaner brand bottle with the vinegar solution alternative and have bought a few extra spray bottles at Supercheap Auto on sale for 0.79c, as opposed to those from $2 shops for $2 each, and labelled each of them with their household purpose, from window cleaner, toilet bowel cleaner, room demister ( and no the room won't smell like vinegar as it neutralizes the air)etc. Try rubbing a few drops of vinegar on the lens of your glasses and dry with a soft dry cloth. As my mum is a chronic asthmatic the vinegar cleaning alternatives are much better for her health. It was a reward to see mum's smile of amazement on her face from outside the kitchen window as I was at the tail end of cleaning her windows (as mum is a see it to believe it person, no matter how many times you suggest she try it). She actually thought it cleaned better than her previous window cleaner. Happy cleaning ; o )

Double the Volume of Vinegar

Double the volume of vinegar by halving the amount into two equal parts and then topping up with cooled boiled water. Let sit for three to four days. The vinegar will ferment the water and you have double the amount of vinegar for half the price. Can still be used for eating as well as cleaning.

Vinegar Extender

We all know the merits of vinegar; but...did you know that you can save even more on this product by decanting half into another container, and topping up with water. Leave 3weeks or so and it will return to full strength!!

Cleaning Bricks

With cold winter weather, comes warm, toasty fires. If you have a brick fireplace, it can be easily cleaned with neat white vinegar. Spray it on, and use a stiff brush to scrub. Then rinse it off with a cloth that has been wrung out in neat white vinegar again.

Final Rinse

My tip is with vinegar. I use 1/2 cup of vinegar in the rinsing water of my washing machine. Better for the environment than fabric softener and it's cheaper. Only $1.30 for 2 litres.

As a General-Purpose Cleaner

My tip is vinegar. I used it to wipe out the shower and benches, and 1/2 cup every wash in the rinse. My clothes are now soft without the use of fabric softener that is environmentally unsafe.

Benefits of vinegar

We all know the benefits of vinegar - well I have just found another two. The tap on one of our basins in the ensuite has been blocked for sometime - I have been putting vinegar on a cotton wool ball and holding it in place until it stays onto the water outlet -every few hours I replace the cotton wool soaked with more vinegar - I have done this for about 1 week and hey presto we now have running water from this tap again. Another tip my dear Granddaughter spilt Slush Puppy (iced cordial) all over the new beige carpet, we soaked up as much as we could with paper towels and then poured vinegar onto the area - hey presto the cordial which had soaked to the bottom of the carpet just rose to the top and we then moped it up with more paper towel - no red cordial stains.
