Drink Your Vitamin C

Have you ever been enticed into forking out money for doing one of those "healthy" things and buying a big bottle or tub of those orange, chewable vitamin C tablets? If it's a yes (like me, there's probably a good chance you have at some stage), and then only a few tablets in, discovered everyone is fed up with the strong flavour and honestly they're too big to be easy for anyone to happily swallow? So they sit there doing nothing - till now. I fill 3 x 370ml water bottles every morning and I add 4 to 6 of the Vitamin C tablets to one of the bottles of water. By the time I've drunk my first two bottles, the vitamin C tablets have dissolved nicely, and the flavour is just right. It's easy to adjust the level of water to suit taste. Better (and cheaper) than buying a bottle of sports drinks too. So there's savings on the vitamins being not wasted and savings on a flavoured drink not bought, and a reminder of how much water we need to drink every day.

Getting Vitamins from Food Sources

By slightly altering my diet I no longer have to buy folate tablets, a saving of $240 a year. By changing to Aldi Just Bran cereal for breakfast I receive 50% of the recommended daily intake (RDI). By adding Vegemite to my sandwiches at lunch gives another 50% RDI. Bran cereal and Vegemite contain high doses of other important nutrients such as thiamine, niacin, iron and riboflavin which are important for brain function and regulating the metabolism. Giving your children Milo is another way to up their RDI of a range of vitamin and minerals.

Get Yours from the Vitamin King

I order mine online through www.vitaminking.com.au They have an extremely large selection on all products and range from vitamins and protein powders to medical wear too. I also find the delivery charge is reasonable. I try to order things together to keep the cost of delivery down. The other thing I do is check in with my friends to see if they need anything too. This also helps keep delivery cost down as you all share the cost.

Online Order Three Times a Year Saves Money

We buy most of our vitamins, minerals and protein powder on-line. We use City Health Foods based in Newcastle www.cityhealth.com.au. It's only worth buying on-line if you purchase a substantial amount as there is a $10 fee for postage and handling. As we order 2-3 times per year and use lots of protein powder as well as a variety of vitamins we save 30-50+% on recommended retail price. If you get onto their mailing lists you will be alerted when specials are on eg we are just about to purchase some protein powder 6kg for $95 which is a bargain. Specials we took advantage of last order (5-6months ago) were Vitamin C (500mg - 300 sugar free) and Multi Vitamin & Mineral (200) at $7 a bottle. Both well known brands and unfamiliar brands are stocked. The best specials seem to be for unfamiliar brands but they are just as good.

Big Yellow Building Saves Money on Pharmacy Items

With 2 young children (and all the coughs and colds you endure!), I buy medicines, vitamins and just about everything else you get from a pharmacy at the "Chemist Warehouse" for much less than a regular pharmacy. They are the big yellow buildings that seem to be popping up everywhere in Australia. Check out their website www.chemistwarehouse.com.au. You can even order online if you can't get to a store. I find them cheaper than chemists and buy all my medical prescriptions from there too!

Golden Glow is the Best for Vitamins

I am still checking this very question out but so far the winner has been at www.goldenglow.com.au the postage is usually only $3.50 unless you want express and the more u buy the less you pay. They also have a free naturopathic service which I found really good.

Get a Golden Glow

I have found that the Golden Glow website www.goldenglow.com.au is excellent for buying vitamins online, AND if you have an order over $100 delivery to your door is free, any other orders are cheap anyway, as the postage and handling costs are under $4. I am very happy with their selection of items and they have sent me a catalogue as well, containing Christmas ideas such as soaps etc.

Vitamin Club

We having been using a vitamin club for many years now. It's part of Australian Natural Care - a 100% Australian family owned Internet company. You can get all your favourite vitamins (and minerals and other supplements) delivered to your door for up to 50% off. If you want to know more, call them on 1300 365 080 or go to www.ausnaturalcare.com.au. They have a 'Club 4 Frequent Buyers' that we use where our order is delivered every 90 days. If we want to change the order or even drop the order it's just a phone call away. They send a reminder email when your next order is coming up so you can revise it if you need to. The products are of excellent quality eg I love CoQ10 (50mg). One bottle is normally $29.95 9 (30 caps). Three months supply would normally cost nearly $90 but through the club, it comes to just under $45. Check the prices elsewhere - you'll see that's a bargain. A 4 month supply of Vitamin C (1000mg) will cost you $17.50. Give them a call and ask them to send you free catalogue. It's fabulous all by itself - lots of info about them and each product. They have free consultations with their naturopaths, usually a free gift with first order and also subsequent orders depending on spend. I buy for myself, my family and some friends so I can split the $7 delivery fee and I get to keep the gift! I often compare the prices with what I would be spending at eg Chemist Warehouse (who are also pretty good) and think I'm doing really well with this company.

Save on Vitamins at the Supermarket

I have found the best place to buy vitamins is the larger supermarkets i.e.. Coles and Woolies. After being charged over $40 at the chemist I found the exact same product and quantity at Woolies for only $21.95.

Get Vitamins from Online Pharmacies for Less

Try the online pharmacy's. Epharmacy.com.au or ozepharmacy.com.au are a couple of examples but you can do an internet search for others. They can deliver online orders for a fee but you may find you are still in front. Some of the online pharmacies have shop fronts as well but the savings are not as great. For best deals not only on vitamins but prescription medicine. I got my script filled for almost half price. Contributed by Ronnie, Lalor Park, 12th November 2008

Cheapest Chemist in Melbourne

Hi Cath I enjoy receiving your newsletters and thought I should contibute to your site. I have found the cheapest chemist in Melbourne - it is called Chemist Warehouse. It has just opened at 925 Whitehorse Road, Box Hill, and is fantastic. Currently I can purchase Natures Own Omega 3 fish oil 1000mg - 200mg for only $11.99, Nurofen pack of 96 tablets for $9.69, Listerine - one litre for $7.99 and Panadeine pack of 24 tablets for $2.99, just to name a few! The savings are incredible. I have already told some friends about Chemist Warehouse and they were shocked but very happy to find a chemist that sells such affordable products. Hope this helps!
