When Money is Tight, Mealtimes are A Necessity

When money is really tight meal times become more than a necessity, they become something the whole family looks forward to. When times are tough, you need to make sure that your food dollar buys the most nutritious and delicious food you can manage.

To maintain good health you must supply a starch, protein, fruits and vegetables. Potatoes are too expensive so focus your starch hits on rice, pasta, chick peas, lentils, beans or flour products that you make from scratch - like pizza.

Protein is the most expensive thing to buy, don't think you have to give them meat every day. You can get by on delicious egg and cheese meals that don't send you bankrupt.

You can also use fish, either fresh or tinned.
Eat fresh foods and save money Don't forget milk - it's high in protein and can be either powdered or fresh, both are good. Eggs are the next best buy to milk. They can also be combined with other inexpensive ingredients to make delicious meals.

Never forget fruit and vegetables because that's where you get many of your vitamins and minerals.

Build your meals around starches - fried rice with egg, pasta with fresh tomato sauce, boiled egg salad with a bread roll, stir fry, tuna and vegetable bake, salmon patties with vegetables - the list is endless and all the recipes are on the web.
