31 Days of MOO No. 20 Cool Whip

Picture
The Internet is a wonderful thing. It brings other cultures right to our loungeroom chair. We get to see how people in other countries live, and eat. We can see the recipes they use and perhaps even give them a try.

Sometimes those ingredients are strange to us. We don't know what they are, or if they have another name in Australia.

One of the ingredients that pops up often, particularly in American and Canadian recipes, is Cool Whip.

Now to me that is that fake cream in the aerosol can you buy at the supermarket. It's super sweet and really fake. That's not Cool Whip! Cool Whip is a version of our whipped cream, with a few rather unnecessary ingredients added.

Here's how to MOO Cool Whip, so that it tastes good, and it only has three natural ingredients, nothing fake.

Take 300ml cream and pour it into a mixing bowl.
Add 3 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
Whip the mixture until it is firm; peaks will form in the cream and it will be quite stiff.
Now don't go crazy and overwhip, you aren't making butter.
The cream should be stiff enough to hold peaks and not drop off a spoon.

And you're done! MOO Cool Whip, or as we Aussies say, whipped cream.

Use it to fill a sponge cake or top a pavlova. Add a dollop onto hot jam coated scones. Cut wings out of cupcakes, add a dollop of MOO Cool Whip, put the wings back to make butterfly cakes. Drop a good dollop onto a slice of hot apple pie.

You can use thickened cream or pure cream, and of course MOO Vanilla Extract is perfect.

If you want a sweeter "Cool Whip" add more sugar. If you like it less sweet, like I do, cut the sugar (sometimes I don't even bother with the sugar, depending on the recipe".

Costings:
Dream Whipped Topping $5.60/250g or $2.24 per 100g
MOO Cool Whip $2.35/300g or 79 cents per 100g

Cool Whip is simply whipped, sweetened cream, something we Australians have been MOOing automatically forever, keeping more money in our grocery budgets. How good is that!
