Dear Cath - May 2018

Q. Do you know if Lux flakes cam be used in a front load washing machine? I’ve been using Lux flakes for a while now in my top load washing machine and love it. Can I use Lux in a front load washing machine? If so, how much do you recommend? I’ll be away on holidays later in the year and will have laundry facilities at my accommodation, I’m not sure if I will have access to a top or front load machine. I prefer to use Lux than other highly fragranced laundry products. Michelle

A. Lux Flakes is not recommended for front loaders. As a pure soap it tends to bubble and froth, and as front loaders don't use a lot of water, the suds restrict the movement of the clothes through the water (and you need the water to clean the clothes). Cheapskates Washing Powder is ideal for front loaders as it doesn't suds up at all; it just cleans the clothes. Another issue with using Lux Flakes in front loaders is that it doesn't always dissolve properly.
Perhaps you can call ahead and find out what type of washing machine will be available and plan accordingly.
