31 Days of MOO NO. 4 No Sugar Condensed Milk

Picture
MOO condensed milk, next to MOOing washing powder, was one of the biggest aha moments for me. To think that something I had always bought in a can was so easy and CHEAP to make, was such an eye-opener that it gave me a push to find out what else I could MOO.

Over the years, I've made so many batches of condensed milk, and loved the savings. And then I needed to find a way to MOO a sugar free condensed milk, because I couldn't find one to buy.

Not everyone will like this recipe, and that's fine. If you don't like to use an artificial sweetener, that's OK - you just won't be able to make a sugar free condensed milk. But this recipe works for me, and it will work for you too. It replaces regular MOO condensed milk in all my recipes, including my caramel slice and no one has complained.

It will cost a little more - Splenda and Stevia are more expensive than regular white sugar. I wait until it's on sale (usually only twice a year) and buy a few boxes to use to make sugar free condensed milk.

Ingredients:
1 cup non-fat milk powder
2/3 cup boiling water
3 tablespoons butter
1 cup granulated Splenda or Stevia (or sugar free sweetener of choice)

Method:
Mix all ingredients together until the butter has been combined in a food processor or with a stick blender (or in a vitamiser, bullet mixer etc.). Pour into a clean jar and chill to thicken. Use as you would regular condensed milk. This recipe can be frozen. Makes the equivalent of 1 tin of condensed milk.
