Plan and Prepare Ahead - It Just Makes Sense

Picture
Everyone knows that using commonsense and planning and preparing for whatever is coming in your life just makes sense.

Prices are rising (that can't be denied), there are shortages (another thing that can't be denied - just look around you to see what is in short supply. The latest is more power shortages for the coming summer and yet another seed shortage.

So you have a choice: keep preparing and building your pantry, or end up hungry, dirty, homeless, in debt - all because you didn't plan and prepare. It just make sense to get a head start on things you know are coming up!

I do plan ahead. I do prepare ahead.

A friend's husband once told me I am the Queen of preparing ahead. My mother used to tell me I was ready for tomorrow yesterday - I plan and prepare ahead.

Straight after dinner each night, the dishes are done and the kitchen tidied. Then the kettle is filled and our mugs are put next to it, ready for the morning. The thermos is waiting to be filled. Breakfast things are put out, ready for us next morning. It takes less than five minutes to do these things, but it saves a lot of time and fussing around in the mornings, when everyone is busy trying to get ready for the day ahead.

If we need lunches, they are done and in the fridge. Again, it only takes about five minutes, and saves at least $15 a day on takeaway/café/food van meals and snacks.

It just makes sense.

Before I go to bed I get out my clothes for the next day. Even if I'm working at home, I lay out my clothes. When it's cold in the mornings, or I have an early appointment, like I did this morning and had to be out of the house by 7.30am, it saves time and energy. Planning and preparing ahead just makes sense.

Bills are scheduled to be paid two days before the due date, and thanks to budgeting, they can be paid in full on time. It just makes sense.

I don't plan and preparing out of fear.

I'm plan and prepare ahead so that I can always shop for the specials and rarely, if ever pay full price for things; so that if I decide to take a day or a week or even a month off then I can, without worrying about what needs to be done. I plan so that bills are always paid in full on time. I plan so I don't forget important dates and events. I plan so that the pantry is always full. I plan so the garden is productive and provides what we need. I plan so that I have gifts when they are needed. I plan so we can go on holiday and enjoy it. It just makes sense.

I plan and prepare ahead to save money, time and energy.

When I upload a blog post I get so many comments about how much gets done in a week. Those things don't get done by chance. They get done because I plan and prepare ahead. Having a plan in place and preparing ahead saves a lot of stress and a lot of expense.

Christmas is a good, and probably cliched, example.

Look at your gift list, and keep an eye out for suitable presents. When you find something, within your budget and hopefully on sale, you can get it, wrap it, label it and cross it off the list. One less thing you need to worry about, and there's no panic when you need it.

You know the birthdays you need to prepare for, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Easter, Christmas - they're not surprises, they happen every year so plan and prepare ahead.

Checking your budget now, and making any adjustments, will make next year's budget planning easier. There won't be any nasty surprises and you can know that all expenses will be covered or make the adjustments you need to cover them - you planned and prepared ahead.

It may not come naturally to you to make a plan or prepare ahead, or both. That's OK, you can learn.

But why do we need to plan and prepare ahead? How does this save us money?

Well first off, without a plan you have no direction. You're using the hit and miss method of living. Sometimes you hit the mark and life is good, but most of the time you'll probably miss it, and that's when life get stressful.

For example, you know the car insurance is due, it's due at the same time every year, but you don't have it as a category in your budget (if you even have one), so then you're scrabbling to find the $864 or however much it is to pay it. That could mean you take money from another bill or you use the credit card or you just don't pay it and hope you can get the money before the registration is cancelled completely. Talk about stressful!

By preparing ahead - putting car registration into the budget and putting aside the money every pay, when the bill comes in it's a no brainer - it just gets paid. No stress. No panic. It just makes sense to plan and prepare ahead - I'm pretty sure everyone can see the sense in putting a regular bill into the budget.

When you plan and prepare ahead you are never caught having to buy something right now! Because right now often means full price, and it usually comes at a time when full price isn't going to fit in the budget comfortably.

We keep a gift box for a reason - so we can give the perfect gift, within our budget. Whether it's handmade, homemade or bought, planning and preparing ahead means we get the gift within our means.

Having a gift box also means that when you get an unexpected invitation you have something to give, be it a birthday, new baby, or just an invitation for a meal - it's nice to take a little something as a thank you gift and when you plan and prepare ahead for gift giving there is always something to wrap and give. By planning and preparing ahead, there's no stress and your budget won't suffer. It just makes sense.

Taking the time to plan for what is coming, and then getting as prepared as you can, takes away the stress. It gives you time to get the best possible price if you need to purchase something. And it means that when the event comes around, you are ready and able to relax and enjoy it, knowing that by planning and being prepared, you have saved money, time and energy.
