Singles Can Pay Down Debt and Save - Part 1
I am a single divorced woman on one income, paying rent with normal expenses and bills.
In two years I cleared a $7,000.00 credit card which I had because of relocating, by paying two tax refunds off the debt, and by paying as much money each week off the card (ignore the requested monthly minimum payment).
By drawing up a tight budget, and allocating a certain amount of money to each item, this can be done. I have still been able to enjoy occasional cheap lunches, amateur theatre and simple pleasures like the beach & walking.
If you look at your ultimate goal while making the sacrifice, it's well worth it. In two more weeks, I will be totally debt free, and will then be on a savings plan to save for that holiday I haven't had for quite a few years.
Running a budget is the key, and look at homebrands in the supermarkets; a lot are really good and are half the price and buy your skin care/cosmetics at Coles or Woolworths. When you go to the hairdresser each month for that colour/cut, don't have a blow dry, do your own.
There are lots of ways to make that budget work, without always going without. Best wishes.
