Shopping Bag Win - June 2018

In WA we are about to undergo a plastic bag ban. About time I think. Anyway, I usually get my fruit and place into those little flimsy emergency bags- you know the ones, they fold up into a pouch and you zip them up and forget about them in your handbag. I refuse to use the plastic ones and add to the mess. Well, I was washing yesterday and had a lingerie mesh bag in my hand. I thought to myself- it has zips (so nothing will fall out and you don't have to tie it), they are see through for the staff on checkout, weigh next to nothing (although it would be best to check), and you can wash them after if needed. I have 6 mesh bags so guess what is coming with me on the next shopping trip? I was thinking of buying or making cloth bags but guess I have just saved time, money and energy! $🤣

Editor's note: Queensland is following Western Australia, and Coles and Woolworths are voluntarily elminating single use plastic bags this year. A few years ago I made veggie bags, using netting I had in the cupboard. They earned a few odd looks the first few weeks, but after a while my local greengrocer became used to them. Since then they've been a popular gift, but these days I make them from recycled net curtains I buy from op shops for $2 - $3 each. The early bags had ribbon ties, nowadays I use elastic to keep them closed. Cath
